I detail the process to make a "wood cookies" flooring. This example in in my Hobbit House / Gnome Home She Shed but could be done anywhere. This is a rustic flooring that really goes well with this shed. I used self-leveling concrete to fill the voids between the wood slices.
The Nater Tater Channel ( / natertater ) covers any topics related to my 47 acre property. Building things, driving things, smarthome, wifi, outdoor activities etc. Follow me to see my many projects!

Have you considered using a funnel for the concrete to limit the mess? Just wondering if thread would work. The floor is beautiful!!

Looks like your labor of love is paying off. Great job! You went to great and well advised effort to dry the wood cookies to low moisture content. Was your intent to dry wood below the average 12% to a 7% to compensate for the reintroduction of moisture from the flowable grout? Was this a factor in your plan? Looks awesome. Would you do the same process again? Thank you.

Thanks. I would use a container with a spout for easier pouring if I did it again. Pouring from the 5 gal bucket was the hardest part. Made it messer than it needed to be. For wood, just tried to get it as dry as possible.

Can you use it outside on the patio and around the pool. What protective seal would i use? Normal concrete? Thank you
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 8 ай бұрын
The wood would not hold up indefinitely if exposed to the weather no matter what you seal it with. Its also hard to seal the end grain which all of these are. An epoxy or something could seal it but would then be slippery for a pool deck.

Hey I would like to do this for my living room I love your tutorial but have a couple questtion. Would it be easyer to sand after the concrete and your video the concrete looked alittle lighter than brown so I guess my question is did it come out as brown as you would have liked.
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes it does dry to a very light brown color (like the picture at the 19 min 15 sec mark). If you get it wet it is the darker brown (like the picture at the 19 min 10 sec mark). You can get the darker brown color permanently by applying a concrete sealer to it. I don't mind the lighter color but I have considered sealing it (you're supposed to wait a month anyways before sealing new concrete). As far as sanding goes, its probably a wash of doing it before or after the concrete. The concern I have with sanding afterwards is untreated wood will absorb the concrete and will stain a few mm deep. If you're planning to do an interior floor and will use one of those large rotating floor sanders to take off a bunch of material then sanding after concrete probably works well.

I saw a video where a guy laid down stones... then sprinkled mortar mix everywhere and swept it off into the cracks... then he added water to it like a garden... and poof, he had a clean and easy stone floor. It was like sparkles and glue, but backwards.

Would it be possible to pour a layer of waterproof something on top of all of this? I sooooo want this floor in my bathroom but since the floor gets wet a lot I don’t know how to keep from damaging all of that work

Я думаю, если бы разливал маленькой (пара литров ) тарой, было бы гораздо чище. Im thinking for cement water better to use some small (caple litres) pail... Will be cleaner. like shake at big one and small one like a ladle

hello, very nice job, I was thinking of building my house in corwood but I can't because the firewood is drying. Do you know if for a corwood floor you also have to let the wood dry for almost a year? Thank you
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 2 жыл бұрын

Did you have any issues with concrete shrinking or cracking? What kind did you use
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 3 жыл бұрын
No issues yet with shrinking or cracking. But every concrete contractor will give you two guarantees...your concrete will crack and nobody will steal it. I used "LevelQuik RS 50 lbs. Self-Leveling Underlayment" but any self leveling mix should work.
