Welcome to my little video from 1995! On every Saturday morning my Wife, Daughter and I went into Blackburn Town centre for our usual treat. As well as a little shopping, we'd have our usual treats of sausage rolls and a delicious pint of Sarsaparilla from Walsh's stall on the 3 day market. On this video you can relive the days of the now demolished 3 and 5 day markets and see just how Blackburn has changed in the 20 years since I recorded the film. I intend to re-visit the town for a 20th anniversary special soon, so watch my channel! I hope you have enjoyed my little video and please share, comment, like and subscribe at FJR Biker Paul.
Update: February 2019. I did indeed record an update to this video. I have also to announce that in May 2017 I lost the most important person in my life, my Wife/Best friend Lynn. These videos therefore have even more significance to me now. Biker Paul.

I'm now 73, I can remember the amazing sarsaparilla stall from being quite young, never to be duplicated, the best sarsaparilla ever. The town has changed massively since I was a small kid going into town shopping with my mum. I returned to good old Blackburn about a year ago and ended up driving in circles as the road system was completely different. Great town, proud to be a Blackburnian. (I wish the Rovers would buck up though)

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I fully concur with you with your comments except the Rovers perhaps lol. My late Mum was a fan from 1947. She suffered poor health in her later years but thankfully experienced the great days of King Kenny et al. I'm 60 now and have left the town.

Have to be honest Blackburn town centre has never been the same since the market moved into the shopping mall in 2011. Of course in the late 80s/early 90s there was also Tommy Balls shoe store which was huge and sadly that too has gone!

I can't actually believe that I've just seen Peter and his Mum on the Sass stall. This video has historic importance, and in answer to your question on your later videos, no, Blackburn hasn't improved, it's gone backwards. The community, tradition, and trading has gone. It's great to hear the beautiful accent again, and those uniquely tuneful flat vowels, and this has been a wonderful night of remembering my youth. Thank you. I used to walk with my 73 year old great Aunt from Shad down to the market every Saturday and get the bus back from Penny Street, after we got a few bargains on the fruit and veg stall. Sometimes, I was allowed a toy from Howarth Bros. at the top end of the market. Good health and God bless.

I really appreciate your feedback here. Obviously KZbin wasn't around in 1995 but I did the video for historic purposes. Little did I know that it would have over 21,000 views at this time! I travel around a lot on the bike and can clearly see that Blackburn is indeed a divided and deprived town that's on its way down further. Thank you again for your story of your memories of the town. Take care.

It was a later addition to the market. As a kid going into the fish market part was fascinating to me and just loved the smell. Remember the joke shop stall and behind it was a toy stall. You could get anything in their and always bought a glass of sarsaparilla when passing the stall which was on the corner on the left as the market opened up from the entrance ( passing the fish market ). These days if you want a proper market, I go too Bury market which is so nostalgic of the old markets.

They were the best of times. To get the most out of your riding, make sure you get as much advanced training as possible. I have the IAM certificate and I did the i2i training too. The i2i machine control 1 day is absolutely fantastic where you meet other bikers and learn so much about what your machine is about. All the best.

Blackburn was a lot better back then demographically speaking. It did look like an English town more or less, now it's like walking through some place in Pakistan, the Middle East or Africa. I don't like seeing all these crowds of foreigners; when I do call in to the town these days I prefer to go down early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the centre is getting more emptier. It's a lot better.

@tom the cat123 because as a group of people Asians tend to struggle to integrate in they're adoptive countries they live in due to there ridiculous religion which precludes any other way of life which is at odds with its own doctrine hence all the trouble you find connected with this issue until Muslims get there own house in order and modernise accept western values they're never be a solution

Wonder if the youth of today are going to look back at Blackburn and say" ehhh in my day it was great takeaways and bookies as far as the eye could see and 1000s of immigrants sat round doing fck all those were the days"

Sadly, by then, Blackburn, together with much of England, will be majority Muslim. I'm hoping I'll be dead by then although in the last few months we have seen the grass roots of what will come. How is it possible that Scotland has an unelected Muslim who's clearly racist against anyone not from his demographic, then you've got the unelected British 'prime minister' who is presiding over the first invasion of England and actively encouraging it, Wales have just apparently elected a Black guy as their leader (I've got nothing against people of colour as long as everything is equal) and of course the biggest clown of them all, Khan of London. So, 4% of the UK population have all power positions. How is this possible? Do they represent the remaining 96%?

@@npr1300A8 couldn't have written that better if Id have tried for a day. The Scottish leader stood up in there parliament building and rattled off position after position held by white people 😡😡😡 how is that party elected are Scottish voters just staying at home and drinking whisky while their country is taken over..... And khan don't get me started on that utter joke of a mayor... London is a 3rd world shithole' full of young black men hell bent on chopping you head off with a machete..... I can feel a bit of pushback in the air but feel it's to little to late... England sadly is in ICU and the prospects aren't good
