"New York isn't New York without you." This is such a funny thing about leaving New York and then going back. It's a city of ghosts. All the friendships, all the momentum you spent all those years building, gone. And you miss the time you first discovered New York. But now it's somebody else's first time, something you can never have again for yourself. "Slip my hand from your hand leave you dancing with a ghost." Precisely. Thanks, Annie. I like how you sway when you sing.

I spoke to Annie after a gig on her "Actor" tour. She was very friendly and eager to chat with concertgoers. That was before her collaboration with David Byrne, "Love This Giant". LOL Are you serious? Anyone who is trying this hard is definitely NOT cool. She has that awful (and telling) narcissistic sneer. I do not think arrogant is at all "cool" or desirable or admirable or respectable. It's a defense mechanism for feelings of deep-seeded inferiority trying to over-compensate for shortcomings. Her appearance and attitude are so clinche I wasn't actually sure if she was for real or actually a parody. I was a little surprised to realize she is NOT parodying someone. She does has decent vocals (not great) and her guitar playing seems to be basic, but decent. ...but that narcissistic sneer is about to make me wet my pants I'm laughing so hard. This will be my first Tiny Desk "thumbs down". Usually, I love the artists they invite. This one just seems like a massive parody of someone who's trying too hard.

as an old punk rocker, i can see where shes coming from, shes modern, shes fantastic, taking chances.(and better than ever might i add) i just learned of annie from this and the kexp sets, which blew me away...she has her own styles, and mixes the obv bowie, PHRANC from LA, t-rex, X from LA, PJ harvey, pixies, peaches, Iggy....dresden dolls, the obvious kills....and its all punk rock..but in the new era...this brings the excitement of youth to me, and for that i KNOW she is legit, from the past albums of hers that i have heard, its all varied and visceral, but fun in the right spots....she has fantastic roots technically from her aunt and uncle from the NW from what i hear, and i cannot say ive been more proud of a recent artist than her...she really pulls that visceral 70s punk vibe into modern times, and uses the big machine to actually enhance her art and creativity....pretty visionary if you ask me...not unlike bowie....i am so proud annie! the WORLD IS YOURS!
