I think part of the appeal of the Tiny Desk sound is the fact that most of the bands will play very quietly, compared to regular gigs. They will also be much closer to each other and have little or no foldback, forcing them to listen more to each other.

This was so great!! Nice & simple, however, I still am curious how you individually mic acoustic instruments without a line out (acoustic instruments other than a piano of course)
@globalsoundconcerts7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It totally depends on the instrument but generally speaking, move your ear around to where it sounds the best, then replace your ear with a mic and hit record. Seriously... For acoustic guitar, usually around the 12th fret about a foot away with a cardioid condenser mic. Then EQ the snot out of it to emphasize the frequencies that sound nice to you.
This rocks! Thanks NPR I will be putting all of this knowledge to work for me. Love the channel and the Tiny Desk series.

@globalsoundconcerts3 жыл бұрын
Truth. Hopefully someday I’ll make a video about post.
@globalsoundconcerts3 жыл бұрын
The real secret is in the mix / post-production where I use EQ, compression, a little reverb and tons of level riding to get the balance just right for each moment. Everything's then mastered using iZotopes's Ozone.
@gabrielmorton70303 жыл бұрын
@@globalsoundconcerts Thanks for the insight! Do you find level-riding to result in a more natural sound (opposed to a heavier compression?) I usually hand-select portions of tracks which are significantly quieter/louder than the average volume and alter the volume through edits, opposed to riding faders. Would you imagine this results in a similar outcome as your method?
@Lettsbet6 жыл бұрын
