I always describe Gareth’s singing as ‘Brutalist’. It’s not supposed to be pretty, it’s supposed to be impactful and overbearing, something that makes los campesinos so utterly unique and wonderful

They might seriously be the most underrated band in history. This performance is just so raw and real and I love it so much🫧 Gareth’s lyricism is something that got me super invested in Los Campesinos! besides the amazing instrumentals (especially in No Blues, in my opinion). They’re just so great, I hope to see them live one day👍

gareth may not have the best voice in the world, but his song-writing is SPECTACULAR. every bit of it is either incredibly deep, incredibly clever, or both. the band is absolutely amazing too!! the harmonizing that the girls do during 'the sea is a good place to think of the future' is just beautiful and the incorporation of the violin really adds a unique touch. such an amazing band - i'm so glad they're still kicking!!

More to the point, he's one the best British lyricists currently writing. Most rappers don't sing, but are often judged by how well they string words together. Black metal lead vocalists don't sing, but what they do is good or bad on its own merits and in its own terms.

I was going to yell, and curse, but then I realized this comment really just made me sad, because I realized that you didn't get it. He's not a good singer, but that's not the point. Everything he sings is imbued with passion and he really means what he's singing, and it's the not-quite-there-ness of his voice that hammers this home.

Do they hope the media attention ( for saying "cock" in a song) brings them the fame their musical skill never will. make your lyrics six year old friendly and you'll be huge in America.
