Dear Jeferson. Many thanks for all your valuable process courses. I would like to highlight that in example 5.2, You specified in the Excel spreadsheet the process pressure as 258 in kpa (absolute) while 258 kpag (gauge) is given in the sketch. Please check and revert.

Hi, in the spreadsheet was missing the "g" in the pressure information (line 20). This information is gauge pressure as informed in the sketch. Thanks for the alert. I will fix the units of measurement in the spreadsheet. In any case, the calculation in the video is correct. Good catch :)

Dear Jefferson Costa., I hear and watch all your tutorial in this KZbin video especially at NPSHavailable at Excell Calculation and HYSYS programmes. One question. I wanted to ask you a little bit. At Excell in Line 22., when you input at SG with value 0.56 then in Line 27 >>> D27 = 1.6; G27 = 0.0 and in Line 30 >>> D30 = 359.0 I have found some difficulties in calculating these Lines. How todo that. Regards.

Hi Aries, just as a reminder the blue field are process engineer inputs and orange fields calculated values. That said, 1) SG is the specific gravity = mass density of fluid/mass density of water. So the D22 = SG * mass density of water. Something important to note is that the problem description says butane SG is 0.59. While in the exercise the author used 0.56. 2) pressure = acceleration of gravity * mass density * length. As the friction losses are informed as m H2O, we need to convert this value to m Butane. That's why 0.9m H2O is divided by 0.56. To be consistent with the problem description, 0.59 should be used. 3) Inlet pressure is (Patm+Pgauge+Pstatichead)-(friction losses) I hope it has been clarified. :)

Dear Sir , thank you a lot for this explanation , i have just one question : in the munit 20:03 , you have talked about the calculation of NPSHa by Hysys software : you have said that the P1 : is the inlet pressure at the pump suction and as we know this value normaly shall including ( absolute pressure at the vessels - pressure loss +- static pressure of the static head ) how we can get the same value as the excel sheet calculation by adding the dynamic pressure ( V2/2G ) , when we can consider this dynamic pressure , and why you have not consider this value in exceel sheet ? NPSH-A = (((Pvessel-Pv)/ρ)x10.2)+Hz-Hf+(V²/2g) , thank you very much
@jefersoncostaengineer Жыл бұрын
Hi, dynamic pressure is based on pump nozzle. In the preliminary calculation pump was not selected, and pump nozzle is not available. Moreover, ignoring dynamic head will drive us to safe margin. For all these reasons, we usually perform NPSHa calculation without dynamic pressure.

TQ for sharing your knowledge. Is there a different NPSH calculation for reciprocating pump? 🤔
@jefersoncostaengineer Жыл бұрын
Hi for reciprograting pump, the chemical process engineer must subtract an additional term related to the reciprocating pump acceleration head. NPSHA = pg + pz - pvp - pf - pac

Thank you for this excellent information. What if we are to take distilled water at 1 Bar absolute on the suction side of a pump at 100 degrees centigrade, what is the calculation?
@jefersoncostaengineer11 ай бұрын
The procedure is the same. As the fluid is at saturated conditions, you will work on the elevation of your vessel/column or eventually you can consider cooling the stream before pump suction.
