Wow, some VERY high Dollar equipment that’s for sure. I got into this sport about two years ago. And for those who think there is no skill involved you a sadly mistaken. What you fail to realize is that most people that get involved in this sport did not just one day decide, I’m going to do benchrest shooting. It’s something most “evolve” into after sometimes years of shooting other disciplines. Many BR shooters can pick up an a scoped stock rifle and with maybe just a bag front rest come close to shooting what they shoot with their sometimes $5000.00+ BR setups. It’s that pursuit of ultimate accuracy that drives this sport.

I started shooting 3 position - 22lr with a Winchester Mod 52 - target sights. 43 yrs ago. I had shot for 5 yrs, when I finished with it. Canadian - I moved onto handgun, free-pistol, Silhouette, and a host of others. Still - I enjoy the 22 - Cheers!

What's a ballpark figure for getting properly geared up for this sport? I shoot a Marlin .22 squirrel rifle that shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards, match ammo of course. But seriously what kind of $$ would I have to gear up to be " in the game" ?

Love my Marlin 81DL that was $28 in 1947. From what I have seen a good beginner rig is $3-4K. Then the sky's the limit on open class.

Nice sport. I've been shooting many years in the "22 hunter" (french version) with some Anschütz rifles. I went to larger centerfire calibers because i was bored with the factory ammunition selection. It is a very interesting shooting when trying to understand invisible wind effects in each shooting range. If you try to compete at a high level you must find the best ammo batches that fit in your barrel. You are very lucky to have Eley in England, the best ammo quality in the world 👍

@@Fastnet72 With the NRBAI rules, do you count the Xs into the score ?
@br47134 жыл бұрын
@@Fastnet72 I say that because when we changed the 22hunter rules few years ago it changed also the kind of ammo we use. Some batches gives a bit more 10s and less Xs, and some other more Xs and a bit less 10s. We used to count a bullseye dot to 11 points, but now it is not the case anymore. Now I use Eley cartridges because I find they often give less flyers on a match, even if 10 shots groups are a bit tighter with the RWS.

Been watching a lot of 22lr videos for some reason they pop up. Been talking to my cousins and we've had a good LOL about these, because for some reason people think 50 meters or 50 yards is a long shot for a 22lr, and people spend all this money on building a 2wlr. My cousins and I have been shooting 2lr our whole lives. We have always used gold balls, black walnuts, the ends of 22lr cartridges, and the ends of cigarette butts for targets and hit them with no problems. Then again I forgot we are all from West Virginia lol. I told them we should enter with our plain jane 22lr's and go dominate the competition, besides it would be fun, and funny with us out their out shooting with our ain jane 22lr.

@desowens28597 жыл бұрын
Afraid not, 22lr is more accurate; and I’d be terrified of the cost shooting with 22 magnum or hornet, I would easily shoot 50 rds per card, minimum 2 cards per competition class. At a shoot I shoot in 3 classes, 300rds

As someone who does IPSC and 3gun, this just seems bizarre, it feels more like an equipment (and your knowledge on your equipment) competition, instead of a shooting competition. Which... is fine I guess, too different from the shooting sport I know for me to intuitively understand it.
@br47134 жыл бұрын
Having the best equipment is the visible part of the iceberg... Because when the wind blows, the price or the quality of the rifle wont change anything to the way it will push the bullet away from the bullseye. The point you have to hit measures only 1mm diameter at 50m, and even a few wind can push your bullet some centimeters away at this distance !

Did the man at 02:00 fire his rifle while he wasn’t looking down the scope?
@henerymag3 жыл бұрын
Yes he did. The rifle is bolted down so it won't move. All he has to do is set the scope to his liking and touch the trigger. Common practice in those rail gun matches at longer range. Not my preference but to each his own.
@henerymag3 жыл бұрын
@@Fastnet72 Yes it moves with the recoil, bolted down wasn't a good way for me to describe it. but it is fixed to the slide once on target. They are not holding the rifle, just pulling the trigger, no need to look through the scope

I can honestly say I don't see the challenge in this type of shooting where everything is set in a vise and pretty much the gun shoots itself. I have a savage mar 2 with a 16" bull Barrow a $16 by pawed and a shady bench and I can shoot those group all day long with bulk ammo or at least CCI. I guarantee I can go out there with that set up and shoot just as good. For that set up you should be hitting the bull's eye every shot you take. I'm not that impressed long range shooters of Utah have half the set up and twice the accuracy
