The NRL recently implemented a new rule designed to encourage short drop-out attempts and short kick-offs. Previously, a poorly executed short drop-out or kick-off often resulted in a penalty for the opponent. However, under the new rule, a penalty will no longer be awarded. Instead, the opposing team will restart play with a play-the-ball 10 meters from the line where the kick was taken. While the league claims it's aimed at improving the game, not everyone is on board.
