Parra finished 8th in 09 it was still under the last finals sytem, roosters 6th in 2010, warriors 6th in 2011, dogs 7th in 2014 and cowboys 8th 2017. Bulldogs were the last to win from outside the 4 in 1995 from 6th but that was before the McIntyre system that came in 1999 and through to our current finals system adopted in 2012.

The reason no team has won outside of the top 4 since the new system has been added, is because no team has been good enough to do it. It's pretty simple; if you're good enough you can win 4 games in a row. But generally, if you haven't finished in the top 4, you aren't good enough to beat 4 top tier opponents in a row. A few teams have won after losing their week 1 game, such as Penrith and the Cowboys. It's obviously possible, it's just that teams 5-8 are normally weaker and less consistent.

Raiders can beat anyone when they show up. But being able to play like they did against the panthers means nothing if they can’t be consistent. Did you see the podcast where Andrew voss got asked his two favourite games of this season so far and he said raiders v panthers (last round) and raiders v manly (raiders comeback win at 4pines)

Raiders, broncos, knights, dolphins can only make top 8 if dragons lose both their last games. Whoever loses from phins v broncs can’t make finals. Raiders v dragons final round could be a big game if raiders manage to beat roosters
