I think this is an admission by Souths that Latrelle is floundering. The only person who might be able to bring him into line is an older aboriginal, who happens to be one of the most respected players in the game full stop. Latrelle might look down on JD and think he's done more in the game than he has, but he can't do that with Mal. This might be a masterstroke by Souths.

Mal will demand a change in attitude and culture. He changed maroons culture before the 8 in a row. He will demand a standard from the players and the players who won’t meet this standards, I think he’ll show them reserve grade.

@@matthewriley2115 didn't do much for the Titans. As long as there is a clearly defined job role, as at the Titans he used to stumble and fumble when asked "what do you do here?"

@@RypienGT it would be interesting to see how he goes in the actual interim coaching role though. The role at the titans wasn’t day to day talking to players etc. The man knows how to handle egos and south’s are full of that. They can’t do any worse then they’ve been doing

These NRL clubs get thrown around the old boys club who been around State of Origin, International and Media,I mean are there coaches out there that aren't associated with Channel 9,Fox Sports,QRL, NRL...and have come up through the grades coaching,rather than the same characters jumping into these spots?

As the mad QLDr that I am, Mal’s never coached at a NRL team level. He has done well with QLD and Australia cause has has a team of focussed champions to send out, not the mix of personalities that South Sydney have.
