Super Mario Odyssey puts the player in the role of Mario as he travels across many worlds on the "Odyssey", his hat-shaped ship, in an effort to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, who plans to marry her. The game sees Mario traveling to various worlds known as "Kingdoms," which return to the free-roaming exploration-based level design featured in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, with each featuring unique designs ranging from photo-realistic cities to more fantasy-based worlds.[3][4][5] Each kingdom has Mario searching for and clearing various objectives in order to obtain items known as Power Moons, which can power up the Odyssey and grant access to new worlds. Checkpoints littered throughout each world allow Mario to instantly warp to them once activated.

RarityTime The REAL problem with this ending is that it has unnecessarily done something that the series has never done before, it's divided the fanbase into picking sides between Mario and Peach over who's in the right. Every other game results in a happy ending with nothing to worry about, but this one is handled in such a way that at least one (if not both) of them is painted in a negative light, depending on how you interpret the ending scenes. It's either "Mario was a total idiot, all of Peach's actions were totally justified." or "Peach is ungrateful and Mario deserves better for all the effort he goes through." ect. Even if you're unbiased, that just means that you end up seeing them both as being partially in the wrong, because it's handled in such a way that they CAN'T both be totally innocent like usual this time. It's really such a shame, because they probably just meant it as a lighthearted comedic moment, but due to how it was executed, it caused one of their best games yet to end on a sour note that's anticlimactic at best, and needlessly controversial at worst.

After watching the end cutscene, I just realized something: mario and bowser aren't actually as different as they'd like to think. Mario thinks he's doing good for his kingdom (a la rescuing peach, the ruler of the toads) and bowser thinks he's doing the same (by giving his kingdom a queen), but deep down, they really just want the girl. The only thing that makes bowser the villain is that he is the instigator (by kidnapping peach). If bowser was a mature ruler, and realized that letting peach choose would be best for her, the hero and villain roles would be reversed. But then we wouldn't have an action platforming game, and something more like a sappy romance movie. Good on you, Nintendo, for sticking it to the fans and not giving them the happily ever after they wanted that easily.

And even if he did manage to hop on the Odyssey last minute, where would he have sat? The Odyssey only has two seats, Cappy and Tiara would just sit on Mario and Peach’s head. Bowser can’t just sit on the rail or the top, he’s heavy asf, he’ll unbalance the trip home. Mario wasn’t being cruel, he was telling him not to leave his shit on the fucking moon.

Seems like a prequel to Galaxy to me. Think about it, in this game you travel in an airship around the planet, then the final two destinations are on the moon.
