Little man , they do that because those type of ra cars can be used for regular trailers not just containers . They have floors In those . Now the usual container cars are made lighter so they can ship more of them on a train . Someday see if someone will take you to a rail yard by you and ask these questions and for a tour of the yard . You tak. A bunch of knowledge about something you like

You need to get a scanner! Then you could listen to the train orders and the defect detectors.

@@ATLExpressRailfanner Well, that's got to be annoying! Do you know what is the proper type? I can be on the lookout and let you know. JawTooth (he's a good Railfan and I watch him everyday at around 7am) was just talking about his. If you post a comment he'll definitely answer you. He's a really nice guy.
