NSFAS aims to avoid payment delays this year

More than 20,000 students are still awaiting their NSFAS allowances from last year. As the year kicks off and students return to campus students' unions are concerned that due to the delay in these payments
will affect how students will afford basic needs including food and accommodation.
NSFAS says it's aiming to intensify the work with institutions to ensure that new systems put in place are effective to avoid payment delays.
Social justice activist Busi Seabe weighs in.

We are such a wealthy country but the ANC has just squandered it as you say. I don't think there is an argument for free education at tertiary level. I was educated before 1994 but we had to pay for university - and indeed many people I know had to drop out of university because they could not afford it. But this said, to continuously leave these young people in a no man's land of uncertainty at THIS stage is absurd. Our Government has NO SENSE of caring and governing well for all its all its citizens. It has zero sense that it exists for our benefit and not for their own interests.

Please explain the " missing middle" loan scheme opened on 02February, closing 15February 2024. Also clarify what happens if a student is owing the previous year

You want a practical solution. It is definitely not free tertiary education. Primary education needs the resources to teach children maths, reading & writing. Reinstate a test to allow people in universities. If there are 5000 open university spots available at that institution, make funding available for those financial needed students. The rest can go to Unisa or practical TVET. Nothing is free, money needs to be allocated better. Free education, means no money for Healthcare, housing, water. Choose what won't be funded. I prefer more funding for Primary education

Even the lat year my daughter didn't get nsfas this year I haven't got the money for registration 😢 please we need help

Nothing is free, means money will be taken from something else. You can eat that steak and buy that car. And can't pay rent and those new cloths. Nothing is free

@Masmatix1 I wish things are better. Unfortunately, practical application of this want isn't affordable. Need to choose what will be not be helped or accomplished otherwise everything will be done 20% and everything will fail working 100%.
