A little too late for Meridian Junior College
The saving grace for Meridian Junior College came in the 80th minute, but unfortunately it was not enough to pit them further ahead than Victoria Junior College who won with a score of 2-1.
Arrows of fiery heat descended upon the field of Millennia Institute as the boys entered the field. The throng of supporters for both teams were evident from one end to the other end of the bleachers, each side cheering themselves hoarse throughout the match.
The first heart-gripping moment came when Meridian JC (MJC) No. 11 Muhammad Faisal S/O MD Malik sprinted forward to retrieve the ball . A miscalculated pass had Victoria JC (VJC) No. 5 Pritesh P Kamani deflecting the ball back to Faisal whom reacted too quickly and lobbied the ball high over the net. A series of such attempted goals seemed to plague the MJC team, but they had no claim of a goal in the first half, mostly accrediting to the fact that their turnover rates were high and the capable hands of the VJC goalkeeper.
The first goal was scored by VJC No. 7 Muhammad Deferdauz B Noordin as he easily tapped the ball in at the right side of the goal at the 38th minute. The next moment of jubilation came shortly after at the 40th minute when VJC No.15 Bradley Gan did a spectacular glancing header that had the ball crashing into the goal, amounting the score to 2-0 for the first half of the match.
The pressure was up for MJC as they worked hard to even out the score in the second half. The situation looked bleak until the last ten minutes of the game. The saving grace came in the form of a free kick by MJC No. 10 Mohamed Faizal B Mohamed Raffi who barely nailed the shot as the goalkeeper came up with a lunge that was a second too slow to save the ball. It was havoc as the MJC crowd burst into their cheers that came periodically.
While that single goal seemed to spark off a hope that a draw may have still have been in sight, it came a little too late. It was a race against time for the MJC players, and in the end, the Victorian players were the ones who had something to cheer for at the final blow of the whistle. The final score was 2-1.
