Omg, I can't stand it when people take the gun off their shoulder before working the bolt. Good tips.

nbarca I don't always leave a spent case in the chamber for a while before working the bolt but when I do its for a reason. There is hot brass and cold brass or hot cases and cold cases. If the bolt is run immediately then the brass is hot coming out of the chamber therefore it does not have time to expand to the size of the chamber as it does when it cools down and the brass is cold. If you reload and neck size your cases then you know what I am talking about and where I am going with this. To neck size a case the brass needs to be sized to the chamber after firing so the brass needs to be cold and that is why a spent case is not immediately extracted. Otherwise with hot brass they need to be full length resized. I typically don't neck size much anymore so I don't worry about cold brass, only occasionally if I am going to neck size.

Honestly i thought this was the only way to run it. Ive never seen anyone at the range here do it any other way...... i was blown away when he said people talk between shots. When im behind a firearm thats all im doing until it goes click....... then we can chat.

I looove going slow at the range, lifting that bolt with as little effort as possible, feeling that sweet precision bolt slide catch that spent case between my middle and ring finger as it ejects zen got a 7/16 inch group the other day at 100 yards, so happy with that, 300PRC Howa in Aluminum chassis Ultradyne brake there HAS to be a little wiggle room for the non tactical just guy who needs to relax on a Saturday : )

One thing I heard another person said is that you need to treat the shot, the follow-through, and the cycle of the bolt as one shot cycle. Therefore, you are not done with the rifle until either you reload a new cartridge or at least the empty case is out of the chamber and the bolt open.

G'day, As a teenager my brother would use a single shot .22 faster than our friends could use there magazine fed rifles. That was with multiple shots. Shooting rabbits was good experience for being ready for follow up shots.

With quality guns, yes, this is great advice, with cheap guns, that's when the cheap factor pops up, lol. I had a Remington model 710 when they first came out in 270win. I ran that bolt hard like I do on my Mauser's and Mosin's. The bolt on the 710 literally came right out of the receiver after I ejected the spent casing. The stupid 3 lug design with their "whatever degree throw that was so awesome" was an engineers thought on crack and they stripped out, less than 40 rounds. I'll never touch a cheap Remington model again. The Stevens model 200 series of rifles were much better and they were budget friendly but not cheap as in cheap due to shit design and poor quality.
