The stuff I was taught as a youngster by the old Vietnamn, Korea, ww2 vets, Ryan has covered ALL of it throughout his videos. Atleast the technique and fundamentals that work. A zero bs teacher. But at the same time the way he presents it, translates well to all age groups. Phenomenal teacher. Going through his videos ... he s not reading a script wrote by a team. This guy actually knows his stuff. He UNDERSTANDS it. Experienced it.

Learned all this on the rifle team in high school, 75-78. Glad to see it come around again. Teenagers today don’t have the opportunity to learn this like I did! For standing we put our left thumb under the trigger guard and rested the stock on the rest of the fingers.

When I first went to the range to get ready for hunting with my dad, all he taught me to do was zero in the scope and shoot from prone or the bench. I quickly realized that this isn't the case when hunting and I messed around with different stances. This video did give some more stances I could use and I'm glad I have both the bipod and sling.

I might have to try some of these... I do pigeon control in my neighborhood, and just the other day I used a wild Figure-4 position to shoot a pigeon off of a roof from a seated position. Was probably the most accurate high-angle shot I ever took, and it opened my eyes to the fact that I need to focus on my off-hand shooting as much as my rested shooting.

Great video! We teach the unsupported positions (sitting, kneeling and standing) and sling us in Project Appleseed. You sling is much more than a tool for carrying your rifle. If you really want to improve your unsupported shooting learn to master the use of a loop and hasty sling.

Overall good video. I myself sight in my rifle at the range and get my best groups. I then shoot my pellet gun at home at about 20 yards with dime sized targets. I practice any position in my back yard. Standing is the most important position! Last two deer kills reaction shots at 115 and 30 yards. Pellets are cheap $10 for a thousand. My range cots $20 plus ammo. I practice standing with one armed tucked tightly aiming the weapon downrange with off hand loose on side, good exercise!

Good advice! Unfortunately, my local range only allows shooters to use the prone or the bench. The baffle prevents both the sitting and the kneeling. There's one place nearby that I think allows the standing, but permanent benches make it difficult to even use the prone.

When hunting I use my hiking poles for X'd shooting sticks. I've practiced with them so I know how to get into position quickly to rest my rifle's fore arm on the crossed pole straps. But Ryan's positions should be practiced for times when you have no shooting sticks. My hiking poles are adjustable and I've memorized the measurement numbers on the sticks for seated and kneeling. Soon I'll practice for standing (offhand) position.
@brianlee6849
@brianlee6849 3 жыл бұрын
One thing I would disagree with is when using a rest I was taught to use the sling for support and put the back of the left hand on support whether laying down using a pack or standing. Do everything you normally would just use support to brace the back of the left hand. Don't rest rifle on anything with out left hand between .Hope that makes sense. Thanks for sharing
