im just gonna guess here that you were using a production pistol with iron sights and a standard open carry holster. while practicing does help a lot, you can only get as fast as your equipment allows.

??? The targets are all at eye level. it makes more sense to move from left to right and not go back to shoot a middle target. ?? you lose time (or gain it) when you have to backtrack

You have to end at the "Stop" target. It has a black dot in the middle to differentiate it from the others. In this set up, the middle target is the "Stop" and once it is shot, the time ends. If you hit it before other targets are hit, you get penalties for each missed targets.

If your shooting rimfire, at the end of your strings when you show clear to the RO, do you still have to drop the hammer like you do with centerfire - my concern is for the firearm, your not suppose to drop on empty for rimfire.

That’s gonna depend on your RO, but generally once you’ve shown clear you just need to make the gun “not ready.” For my CZ, that’s dropping the hammer. But if you’re shooting a .22 with an internal pin, just closing the slide and bolstering / casing the pistol should be sufficient.
