Delicious candy's everywhere, truly was the best era in nsw railways,.I miss the mixed freight trains and beautiful passenger trains hauled by locomotives that sounded like locomotives and not vacuum cleaners. Great footage and cool soundtrack.👌

Thx for the positive comments. I really enjoy editing to music and mixing things up a bit. Sometimes it takes me hours and hours to settle on a particular track!

Another great video Barrie, seven car XPT are a good catch at the start, rare sight these days. Remember those "milk pots" well (1.26 shunt scene), they used to stink in the summer! Cheap rubbish candy paint wearing through on 442 class. Great chase of the triple 44 class too, beautiful countryside as a backdrop. Love the little Sputnik rail motor scenes towards the end, memories! Coal is still "King" there, but for how much longer eh?

Hi again Dave. Not sure who Barry is tho! What was the story with those milk pots? Did they take fresh milk to the factory or take spoiled milk or something ex the factory? One of my regrets, despite every intention, was not getting myself on a few rail motor runs in the Hunter region. Coal isnt quite what it used to be!

@@tedbear4243 Milk pots brought milk from the rural areas to Dairy Farmers in Sydney at Pyrmont and Pippita, they needed steam cleaning on the outside from over flow which used to really pong in the summer! Great memories there Ted. I travelled the Sputniks in the 1970's in the Newcastle district, great little rail motor the 600 class.

I've always driven over the bridge near Gloucester station wondering when the old siding there was shunted. Have you got any vision from slightly further North... Wingham/Taree/Wauchope? My Dad did sleeper cutting up in the state forest west of Wingham in the late 80s/early 90s and they were all shunted out of the Borax siding near Taree Golf Club.

Hi there. I havent been up through that area for a long time and really keen to go for a drive for a look to see what things are like now. The hard working days of timber sleeper cutting are almost over in this country. Your comment re your dad has just made me realise thats an aspect of rail related work history that has received very little coverage, if any. I have one more video to do of the north coast. I cant recall exactly what or how much video there is, but i'm fairly sure some of it is from those areas.

Thx Greg. I had lost the VHS edit tape from years ago and I couldnt recall the sequence of shots and music I used back then, except that I clearly remembered using Nothing Else Matters and that it kinda 'worked' for me. I'm pleased that someone else likes it too :-)

@@tedbear4243 more than just works...The use of that music was just brilliant. It sums up what mattered to the young nurdy misfit who just finished school/ or the school kid in years 10-12 who never fitted in and who was never cool, hated going to night clubs. Parents of that era strangely worried more about their nerdy son railfanning than going to a night club in that era and seeing people popping E's, girls doing "double deckers in the cubicle with DJ underage" and getting plastered. As as a now 50 year old it brought a tear to my eye. The music set to those scenes for me sums up a "spirit of freedom" where a young rail fan was at peace with the world. The other footage from that period shot by others shows this spirit of adventure. Where the jackpot for a young railfan would be when a trip train pulls up and the driver in a 48 tells the young rail fan to go to the public phone and ring their mother and tell her you are going to be home very late as you are going go out shutting on some trip train.
