This is a world-class campus... WOW! Years ago, my NGO worked on implementing the Tobacco Control Law at this very campus, aiming to prohibit tobacco smoking. Advocacy was exhausting-while the authorities were supportive, it was the teachers and students who resisted the idea of making it smoke-free. We eventually dropped the idea of pursuing alcohol-free initiatives after that experience. Let the world now see what "goons" are doing to education. Congratulations NTT, for bringing this issue to light! But don't expect Supreme Court to solve every issue. There are ample laws waiting to be implemented and enforced in its true spirit.

A simple Google search will tell you how heavily students drink in the US in many popular universities (with data and surveys). Many US universities also sell alcohol during game days to students and spectators in the stadium. Moreover, students getting beaten up by seniors is common in all colleges (whatever be the reason). It should not happen and should be taken into account, but just highlighting one college/university and ignoring other incidents is sheer hypocrisy. I can name you several colleges in Kolkata, go search around the campus, and you will come across empty alcohol bottles there too, right now. Na but why do you think the culture of drinking comes mainly from arts? Eta toh odbhut allegation. Even in the incident that happened it was perpetrators from Engineering harassing a student from arts. Same with Swapnadeep. Now, ju has incredibly meritorious engineering students and many in the arts faculty too were implicated in ragging. But to imply that the culture of drinking and ragging comes from arts is not supported by the actual historical record of events at ju.

Maybe also report about how JU doesn't get much grants. Neither from state government nor from central government. Go to other colleges as well, why single out a single university? And you were talking about CCTV cameras, despite there being CCTV cameras in RG Kar, the state police force was unable to catch the guilty. And at least the students there are remembering the victim of ragging. Maybe also do a report on the progress of that case, where are the guilty, what their political allegiances were. Do you all dare question the government, or are you all good at only generalizing a whole bunch of students studying in JU?

@@tapojita maybe they should also go to RG Kar where an on duty doctor was subjected to horrifying torture, where the whole state machinery was involved in removing evidences. Why not go to colleges where goons collect money to get people admitted to the colleges. Maybe the guy should have delved deeper into investigating who the people were who were threatening the first guy, instead of roaming the campus aimlessly.
