In the August 8th election, women performed better compared to 2013, at least 23 women were elected to the National Assembly, up from the 16 elected in the last elections. Among the women who overcame major hurdles to campaign their way to the National Assembly were from the pastoral and conservative communities.
Laikipia North MP Sarah Paulata Korere became the first female member of parliament from Laikipia county, in a historic win even after elders had "cursed" her for defying the patriarchal norms of her community . NTV's Rose Wangui caught up with the legislator and here is her story
