Well sounds like you’re not familiar with Metalcore at all. Back in the Late 90's and early 00's where Metalcore slowly started it had way more Melodic Metal influences mixed with Hardcore/Punk. Over time the Genre evolved and bands like BMTH, Asking Alexandria, Of Mice and Man ( to name a few ) established the sound we all know as Metalcore. Every Genre Evolves and changes the sound over time but just because it sounded more Melodic Death at the time the genre started doesn’t mean it wasn’t Metalcore at all.

This is how metalcore was born, which has the old name “metallic hardcore”. But people thought that metalcore was metal with breakdowns and generally hated heaviness, adding the sound of Melodeth. This was weird for me, you covered the entirety of my teens (the 00s). This video demonstrates the stark change of sound metal went under. The first half of the 00s had the nu metal sound, the second half the metalcore sound. Metalcore was more technical guitar wise but often it's vocals lent too much from emo music, and could be very whiney. Whereas nu-metal, whilst not as technical, I always felt was more aggressive. But both genres brought a new and for a time, staple/signature, sound to metal. Can we say the same of metal now? I don't think so. It hasn't had anything "new" in terms of sound for a long time, which I find weird. Plenty of new bands, all of them trying to sound like a genre, rather then creating something truly new.

A few years ago I pointed out that nu-metal always went kinda hard. I'm so glad to have been vindicated

I would like to thank the creator of this video for introducing me to parkway drive!! After hearing carrion I instantly fell in love with parkway and they are one of my favorite bands now! Thought I would share.

Metalcore for the win. Don’t get me wrong I like all the Nu Metal songs but Metalcore is IMO the best genre in Metal. Every song other than the ABR song has been on my main playlist. A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation is what got me fully into metal back in 07

I would've chosen 'My Own Summer.' Because 'Be Quiet and Drive' is probably the least Nu Metal-ish song out of 'Around the Fur.' The whole sing throughout is definitely a normal style of Alternative Metal with maybe shoegaze influence (like Hum)
