This fish is dried roach. It's a beer snack in USSR. Before eating her, you need to smack her on, for example, table. He firstly so hard (to clean too), but after smashing it became soft and easy to clean. Joke in "Nu,Pogodi" was about that this fish was so hard, that it brokes everything. Hare in TV sing song from old Soviet children movie " Captain Grand's children" (1936) called "There lived a brave captain" ("Zhil otvazhniy kapitan") kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaG8iXawfLxpZ80 this is original of this song, and this is pretty interesting version from 1984 which performed by a famous Soviet actress kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipi8nqZshNR0oqc (there is text of this song on the description) 3:21 - it's Ostankino - main telecentre in Moscow were many TV programmes was made (and still). It is the tallest building in Europe and Russia 3:31 - this song "Spyat ustaliye igrishki" ( "Tired toys are sleeping") from children program "Spokoynoy nochi, malishi" ("Good night, kids"). Comes out from September 1, 1964 to this day. The children watched it before going to bed (around 8:30 pm). This song can also be considered a lullaby. Mom sang it to me before going to bed as a child. This is one of the version of "open song". kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXbZdWmlgqeggsU There is so many versions of this "opening", this more "Soviet style", but this video from modern time. 3:42 - this is morning exercises from the USSR)))' 4:01 - football))) (not american. Soccer, if we use American's translation. But in Russia it's "football")

My favourite childhood memory is acting out Wolf and Hare from "Nu, Pogodi!" with a friend. Once we acted out a scene from the episode 1 when the Wolf is climbing up the rope to the Hare's balcony. :D The fish that Wolf is trying to break is called roach (Russian - вобла or тарань transliterated as "vobla" and "taran" respectively). It's actually a traditional way the Soviet citizens were eating the dried fish - they hung it out on the balcony to dry and then knocked with it on the table to soften it. Don't try this at home, or you'll end up like Wolf in this episode. :D The song that the dogs vocal and instrumental band played is "Priest had a dog" (У попа была собака or U popa byla sobaka) which is performed by the band "Tin Soldiers" (Оловянные солдатики) and is intentionally played in the manner of the song "Break on Through" by The Doors. If you listen to the actual song, you can hear that these two are actually similar in some way: the key, the time signature, the tempo and the sound of the music. :D Like and a view, as usual. Keep it up, my American friend. :)

@@d00ditsjeremy To point it out more: "A Priest Had a Dog" is a famous Russian endless stanza. It was written a long time ago. Goes like this: A priest had a dog, he loved her, She ate a piece of meat, he killed her, Buried her and signed that a priest had a dog, he loved her, She ate a piece of meat, he killed her, Buried her and signed that... You got the idea. That dog band is an obvious homage to the Beatles (visually) and to the Doors (musically).

When the Wolf runs into the studio-TV and sees the musicians, he is surprised to find that his pajama pants are exactly the same as the musicians. Although he is not a dog (dogs and wolves are enemies), he still feels sympathy for dog musicians. After all, wolves and dogs are close relatives. And yes!... he always dreamed of becoming a rocker!... but he doesn't know how to handle an electric guitar. Out of joy and the opportunity to "participate" in a real rock band, he forgets about caution and unknowingly sticks the cord from the electric guitar not into the amplifier, but into an electrical outlet.

Here’ s some explanation about authentically Soviet-Russian stuff and soundtracks from this serie: 1) In the beginning the Wolf is watching a football match. You can guess it by special music and comments about passing the ball and getting the goal. Ironically, when the commentator shouts “Goal!”, the wolf directly hits the windowsill, that later falls down, by dried fish. 2) On TV the Hare sings pretty popular Soviet song “Captain, captain, smile...”. 3) The TV studio, depicted in this cartoon, is real. It’s famous Ostankino teletower, located in North-Eastern part of Moscow. Anyone can get a trip there. 4) Through the door of the first studio the Wolf hear a theme song of one famous kid’s TV programm of USSR “Tired toys are sleeping...”. That’ s why the Wolf yawns, it’s another joke. Near the second studio he hears a morning gymnastic’s report and stands in described positions. Near the third studio, he hears a part of dialogue of popular Soviet-Russian drag-comedians, whose stage images have been elderly women. That’s why the Wolf covers his head with his top. Near the fifth studio he hears comments on football game, that’s why the Wolf kicks the door with his legs, while “Goal!” is shouted by commentator. 5) Many Soviet music bands were copying the style of “The Beatles”, so no wonder, that the trio of dogs may resemble “The Beatles” to foreigners. 6) The fencing is a reference to Soviet TV-movie “The three musketeers”, based on the same-name novel by French author Alexander Duma. This movie was incredibly popular in USSR and still remains a classics in post-Soviet countries. It can be often seen on Russian TV-channels, by the way. And the soundtrack to this moment is an orchestra version of “Little man”, originally performed by Cher (USA) in 1960s, by James Last. 7) The soundtrack to magic show is “Caravan twist” by Bill Haley& His comets.

My favourite childhood memory is assembling a New Year tree with my father. We used to do it every year. It gave me an opportunity to show that I am better in engineering than him (and he is a professional engineer) as I usually figured it out faster how to combine those numerous plastic pieces to make a tree. I still assemble the same tree every year though now I do it alone as he moved out.

Hi! I was born in 1991, and I remember how at the end of 1990 children hurry to home when the main TV channel showed Disney Club (8 and 13 hours on weekends) In Russia, we saw these cartoons as REAL, and Soviet cartoons were a little painful to watch because we already knew that that country was no more, and nothing new appeared at that time. The ruble exchange rate collapsed, the country became very poor, parents became gloomy and focused, there was a war in the South. The Studio that produced Nu Pogodi sold copyrights to masterpieces at a criminally low price... But when we watched Darkwing Duck or Chip and Dale, we could forget about it. For me, the happiest childhood memory is Disney cartoons. And of course Ninja Turtles! There is a well-known explanation case for an employee who was late for work because he was watching Ninja Turtles P.S. the song that dogs sing at 5:00 is an old Russian endless story: The priest had a dog, he loved it, the dog ate a piece of meat, the priest killed it, buried it in the ground, wrote an inscription (and then the text repeats) And Yes, this is a parody of rock and roll, which was condemned by the Soviet ideology as corrupting the youth And of course, everyone adored it :) Inscription on the drum: Mongrels P.P.S. You may already know, but in the original story, the wolf and the hare live not far from each other, the wolf is a difficult teenager about 15 years old and not an old pedophile as you might think :)

The rock band "The Curs" (or "The Mongrels") spoofs "Doors". Even an exact clip of them ("Break On Through"). The Mongrels sing, in the "rocker" style, an old Russian joke verse "with no final at all": -- A priest had a dog, he was so fond of it, But the dog ate the priest's meat, so the priest killed the cur! He buried its body, and wrote an epitaph, As follows: "A priest had a dog, he was so fond of it, But the dog ate the priest's meat, so the priest killed the cur..." etc.

Such a T-shirt, which the Wolf is wearing, was called in the USSR "an alcoholic's T-shirt". A Wolf's apartment is like an alcoholic's apartment. This is a parody of asocial elements (drunks and idlers) in the USSR. And the way he tries to soften the fish (roach), such fish was used instead of snacks when drinking vodka. Despite the fact that the Wolf has a glass of milk on the table. (or moonshine?) Like the apartment of Bivez and Badhead, it is all in ruins and has not been cleaned. Shabby walls, remnants of furniture and trash are scattered everywhere on the floor.Despite the fact that the Wolf jealously watches only his appearance (his own appearance is much more important to him than the neatness and cleanliness of his home) and is always dressed in colorful fashion trends (in the style of the 70s) "with a needle".

I watched with pleasure many cartoons: both western, and soviet. It's not than easy to choose only one of them, but I still remember my emotions of watching Duck Tales and Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, despite I was only 4, when these cartoons were firstly shown by Soviet TV. As for the music, there were many popular types of it in USSR of the 1970th. Rock music was also popular despite not so many bands (mostly soft-rock, such as like The Wings, The Sweet, Smokie etc) were officially release in USSR that decade. However, it was possible to bring the others from Poland or Bulgaria (almost all rock groups: Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple and many others were officially sold in those countries). Probably, here is the most popular rock song in 1970th USSR: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn3LnKyveNuIfs0 Soviet rock was only started to develop, so the 1970th were the age by bard music: the author's personal lyrics unde the guitar, like Bob Dylan's songs (kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5K0qWelbdCggq8). Very popular was instrumental music: Paul Mauriat and James Last's Orchestras had huge popularity in USSR. And many others genres, of course

(You know what? KZbin just erased what i've typed, so "lovely", that's freaking me out! OMG! And I should type it in english again?... Cause google translator is bad for my language.) What's my favorite cartoon charecters? All family members and friends of "The Incredibles", Frozon is good that's for sure, because he's not too groovy, not too rude, Dash on the water and in the jungle is cool. Also maybe grandpa from "Up", Ralph from "Wreck-It Ralph", Lisa Simpson you know where from. But old cartoons just lefted in the past. Be surprised, I'm Russian, but I don't like almost anything from Russian art, any kind of art.

The band's name, "Dvornyagi" (Дворняги in Russian). Дворняги is plural of Дворняга, which is mongrel or cur. I think it should be "The Curs", because of The Cure %)

About this dog band - in soviet times rock, rock'n roll and american pop culture were being treaten (bad grammar mb, sorry) as an art performed by dogs, cacophony. Like rock is not a music, it's a dogs' barking. So this is a big mock, surelly you didn't get it. About fish - it's a vobla. Dried fish. Very popular in Russia. Many people here, especially in countryside like to fish, and then dry fishes at home. Very tasty snack, best with beer, but you have to know how to eat this dried fish, it's not an easy thing, you can't just open and eat, you have to peel it, cut off head, and then slice some good dried parts of fish without bones. Otherwise you will be like this wolf in the beginning.

Latvia still considered by many as part of the Eastern Europe. Whatever. But people here are fond of all kinds of music. From Folk and symphonic music to Metal. Take Skyforger (there are some official videos in the KZbin) and their album "Kurbads, ķēves dēls"- in 2018 there was "a metal opera" though I would rather call it a metal ballet (turned out they both go well together). Or this song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2PVXqippd1pgq8. The first word is title (Oak tree), the other - names of the folk music groups. And then there is Russian music (from e.g. a rapper who had got bachelor's degree in Oxford in medieval literature) to big buts and tits. And, of course, everything English and American.

As you said back in the review of the third episode of our animated series "Just You Wait!", You are interested in information about music. The fact is that the animated series itself is unique in that in principle there is no special music in it - it uses only various songs and instrumental music of the USSR, foreign songs and instrumental (such countries as the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, the USA and Hungary). Can I write down a list of songs from the first episodes you watched under each of your reviews?
