Nu-Star Soft Touch Plus - JT's Car Wash, Memphis TN

During my time in Memphis this fall, I started calling this type of car wash the "Memphis combo". D&S 5000 in one bay, Nu-Star soft touch in the other. Since one of the other Memphis combos I visited had a rare Nu-Star with a friction curtain, I thought I'd try out a traditional one with a top brush. Overall, it definitely got the car clean. Very generous with the chemicals and the brushes were thorough. Though this system is pretty aggressive, and I don't know if I'd trust it with a new car or any vehicle where I cared about damaging the clear coat.

For people wondering if this place is still around in Bartlett TN, after the video was shot, both systems were changed to manual bays in 2019 or 2021, and in 2023 (now basically) the entire building got torn down and a gas station is now in it's place. RIP Nu Star Soft Touch Plus and D&S 5000

I like the orange and yellow cloth to the machine! Makes it look so colorful in an old-school way! Very strange with a lot of Nustar systems having no dryers within where you are. Skyvator, me, and other people have found these systems with added dryers. I especially got the ultimate: Mitter Curtain Nustar with on-board dryers! However, I love your videos of these machines too!

The reason this system is so aggressive is because of the brush pressure and use of an alternating pattern of stiff material and foam, forcing the foam against the car. It is completely safe to use on any vehicle, though removing any antennas would be necessary. New Nu-Star machines use starfoam brushes that are less aggressive and safer on antennas and wiper blades.

Maybe they never had a 5000 in this bay. They probably just wanted the same signs for both bays. Probably easier to get two of the same signs rather then specific to the Machine.

those back brushes looked in pretty bad shape. missing a lot of their extended bristles, especially the one on the right looking backwards. I have 2 of these side by side in Pensacola and the back brushes are heavily aggressive on the car. they actually make the car move when they come together.

Same here. And this wash couldn't have been replaced too long ago (note the D&S 5000 signage outside the bay). Most likely the owner got a good deal on a very well used machine.

Hmm, didn't think of that. That must have been difficult moving that from one building to another, and probably required assistance from Nu-Star or another company responsible for carwashes. Although, I am kind of guessing that it was done by someone else considering the shape it is in. It is in really rough shape.
