Nuances // A Great Little Orchestral Expression Controller

An afternoon of playing with sample libraries of cello sections using the handmade Nuances Controller by composer Pierre.
Played using Keystep Pro by Arturia, with various dynamic legato strokes.

Having watched Christian Henson's Ultimate Orchestral Expression Controller, I decided to give the Nuances controller a go and support independent makers.
To me, it is a near-perfect controller for sample libraries and even has extra slider controls for synths. Prior to having physical controls, I used to draw in the expressions with my mouse. Now, I am able to play the sample libraries more like a real instrument. You will still need to fine-tune your expressions after playing the sliders unless you have perfect steady hands.
You might hear some sample switching of the different recorded dynamics if you move too quickly, depending on the sample library you use. But overall having physical controls give you more flexibility and humanization to your playing. Small things I would love to have is detachable cables and perhaps midi and cv implementation for other hardware synths. For now, it sits beautifully on my desk and is a must-have for composers.

It’s great. I’ve had mine over a year and no issues. It also travels well.
