Dr. Mary E. John, a leading scholar in women’s studies and feminism, discusses the complexities of feminist theory, the challenges of confronting bias, and the role of courage in advancing gender equality.
With extensive experience as the former director of CWDS and deputy director of JNU’s Women’s Studies Programme, Dr. Mary's work has significantly influenced the discourse on marriage, family, education, labor, and feminist theory.
Her notable publications include Discrepant Dislocations, A Question of Silence?, and Women’s Studies in India: A Reader. In 2021, she authored Women in the Worlds of Labour and Child Marriage in an International Frame. She also co-chaired the UGC task force responsible for the landmark Saksham report on campus safety and gender sensitization.
