Hello, I have a question that you may be able to answer. I’m looking at the Flint for the paddling. How do you think it would do with an 80# Lab dog on kayak with me? I’m 5’12” and 195#. I’m going to fish some but more for paddling with my dog. I really like the open deck. Hope to help you get more subscribers. Thanks Scott

Thanks for watching! I hope my answer can help influence your decision, but please don't base your entire decision off of my answer, as this is the only fishing kayak I have had. In my opinion, I think you would have a hard time paddling with both you and your dog, especially in less than ideal conditions (wind or strong current). The first thing I noticed when switching from my traditional kayak to the flint was that it really takes a lot of work to get it going, and even in the best of conditions it feels like a tank. This is one of the reasons I added the motor. With that being said, it is very stable and solid - you would be hard pressed to flip it, and there is plenty of deck space. On top of this, compared to other fishing kayaks, I have heard it paddles/goes through the water much better than most. But at the end of the day, it is still a fishing kayak, and you always sacrifice some speed and agility for that stability. I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Great video! -- I am thinking about a Flint with Newport TM for my 1st fishing kayak as well. -- I would love to know how easy it is to stand up in, and did you feel like you could cast/fish/hookset while standing? - Thank you!

I would say yes with the caveat that you are gonna have to get used to it at first. The flint is very stable, and I often stand up to fish. I have yet to flip. However, you will experience what I can only describe as an “initial give” whenever you lean to one side or the other. This can feel like you are going to flip for about half a second before the kayak balances out again. I have talked to some guys in fishing groups who have said this is normal with any fishing kayak. Basically, fishing kayaks have primary and secondary stabilization, so for a second you may feel some “initial give/destabilization” before you hit that secondary stabilization and balance out again. I’ve heard that overreacting or overcompensating for this initial give is what actually causes a lot of people to flip their fishing kayaks. When you first get it, I highly recommend parking on some Lilly pads or anchoring down and getting used to this before jumping straight into fishing. I hope this answered your question!
