+Jimmy Wong Sure fire way to cure hiccups: 1.) Suck in as much breath as you can into your lungs until you can no longer do so. 2.) SWALLOW without letting any air out of your mouth or nose. 3.) Suck in more breath through your mouth without letting any go. 4.) Swallow again, don't let any air out. 5.) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you can no longer swallow. Your hiccups are gone. If it didn't work, you weren't trying hard enough, it gets increasingly difficult to swallow, and you must NOT let any air out!

+Tory Alexander Actually, according to my biology teacher, hiccups are cause by lack of oxygen. Breathing deeply usually gets rid of them in most cases. But don't quote me on that.

Actually hicups are caused by your diaphragm being irratated which can lead to lack of oxygen or trapped air.

+Tory Alexander Incorrect. Hiccups are caused by your throat muscles clenching or something like that. Holding your breath increases the levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) in your body, which helps relaxing the muscles. Hold a regular breath for as long as you can without suffocating, and your hiccups are gone.

Cure for hicups, breath in air, on your mouth, till you cant breath any more , hold for 3 seconds, then take in air till you cant breath then hold, repeat cycle till you are really full of air, that should cure it

Every home remedy that works to cure hiccups has one single element in common. Different families have different remedies because everybody is different and not everyone reacts quite the same physiologically. Drink water while standing on your head, scare someone, breathe heavily, gargle water, whatever. But when the remedies work, they ALWAYS did the same thing to the guy with hiccups -- they made him swallow a little air or expel a little air. Hiccups generally happen when you have a bit of air stuck in your throat -- enough to cause irritation but not enough to burp. By either increasing the air (and burping) or getting rid of the trapped air, the hiccups are cured.
