I get goosebumps when Campbell sings "The earth-child, Awakening. Returning waves of time." Something about how he sings "time" makes that part all that more haunting and beautiful.

their two prior albums were also phenomenal, if you haven;'t heard them, i suggest you seek them out, they are called, Sorrow& extinction, ans ?Foundations of Burden. there are also live recordings available of their appearance (at least one) at the St. Vitus club/venue in New York. These guys are the ones who really turned me onto Doom ( from being almost solely a fan of Swedish death metal).

The talent of this band is amazing and this whole song kicks ass, but the last minute is absolutely phenomenal. The production is so different than what they used to do. Much more rough and organic but doesn't sound as full as it did before, I'm guessing they're trying to distant themsellves from the plethora of bands that sound huge but aren't very creative. I'd be pretty ok with them keeping the huge sound but this new song is so fucking good that I can't be mad.

hmm definitely the voice work and that guitar reverb is giving an ethereal, spacious vibe I'm liking a lot. As somebody who enjoyed the gloominess of their previous work I'm definitely digging this too. Good on them for not sticking to a formula and attempting to push the stylistic boundaries of doom.
@alpinoterran
@alpinoterran 7 жыл бұрын
They've always had the ethereal spacious vibe in their sound, it's the whole point of the contrast between the huge sounding riffs and the really melodic dragged out vocal/guitar lines(the reverb is not new either). The real difference is how the production doesn't sound as huge and compressed as it did before (compare the first 10 seconds of this to the first 10 seconds of "worlds apart") and how the structure of the music is more concise and dynamic.
@pabsensi
@pabsensi 7 жыл бұрын
alpinoterran yeah that's what I'm getting at. i don't think their sound was ethereal so much as it was huge, atmospheric and gave this sense of crushing claustrophobia given how condensed everything was. This is certainly a lot dreamier and spacious than Foundations.
@pabsensi
@pabsensi 7 жыл бұрын
it's certainly not the first time they use reverb. I never said that. HOW they're using it tho, that's something that has certainly changed.
