This song accomplishes something rather unusual. Being it the last song of the album, it sounds like a hero accepting his destiny as a pariah. And it's bittersweet. Perfect.
@thelonespecter3 жыл бұрын
Well, the whole concept of the trilogy (The Scarecrow, The Wicked Symphony and Angel of Babylon) is about a guy that always felt like a "scarecrow", a pariah, an outcast, suffering for an unrequited love... Someone introduces him to arts, and he finally finds some meaning to his life, but in the process he is trapped by his own demons (ie: his own mental issues and, why not, some drugs). Now that I think about it, maybe the meaning of the song is that he surrendered to them, and by doing that he was "lost in space". Unlike the Metal Operas, which they had a story that complemented the lyrics, those albums only featured a brief prelude, and unnamed characters. The story has to be followed by analyzing the lyrics.
@Kjorteo3 жыл бұрын
@@thelonespecter The Scarecrow Saga is definitely subjective and open to interpretation, yeah. We see it as a story about a Syd Barrett-type talented but mentally unwell entertainer, completely unequipped to handle his own fame, and either exploited or at least given bad advice by almost everyone around him. The Scarecrow (as in the first album) is all about grappling with the unrequited love and the rise to fame. The key to understanding "Lost in Space", specifically, is to keep in mind that it comes directly after "I Don't Believe in Your Love". At this point, the protagonist, having been shot down by his unrequited crush and presented with access to all the trappings of stardom, turns to FINE SCREW IT GROUPIES FOR EVERYONE almost in a fit of pique ("Loving you was bleeding, so I had to break away/Darkness' stretching out its hand to save me from your sway/'Cause loving you was wasting, loving you was pain/Now Angel of Temptation, open up the gate!") Both musically and lyrically, "Lost in Space" feels almost like the regret-filled morning after, the rock star hedonism not having filled that hole in his heart after all. A feeling of "What now...?" But that's just one read! The Scarecrow Saga was definitely the start of Avantasia moving away from straightforward literal stories and toward more abstract ones that can mean whatever you interpret them to mean (though there were still some strong hints at least at this point in their career.)

Another star has fallen without a sound Another spark has burned out in the cold Another door to the barren standing open And who is there to tell me not to give Not to go How could I know? How could I know? That I'll get lost in space to roam forever How could I know? How could I see? Feeling like lost in space to roam forever I'm crawling down to the doorway to the badlands Been kicking down all yer hurdles to the black And all the damage fading in the rear view mirror And the demons are calling me They're dragging me away How could I know? How could I know? That I'll get lost in space to roam forever How could I know? How could I see? Feeling like lost in space to roam forever Lost in space Lost in time Lost in space Lost in time Lost in space How could I know How could I... How could I know How could I know That I'll get lost in space to roam forever How could I know How could I see Feeling like lost in space to roam forever Forever!♫

This song is so soulful, and different from the early Avantasia. Tobias is just an artist making the music he wants, brilliant songwriter. Very emotional

I listen to this because it's Avantasia. It's written by Tobias mastermind of Edguy and he's from Germany. Germany produces legendary musicians who are light years ahead of the talent that is popular in the US (where I'm from). I certainly don't care what genre this song is. It's lyrics tell a story, the music paints the dream, and the video transports me there.
