You can usually get bike tires, chains and everything bike related for free in bike repair shops if you are polite. They need to pay for disposal of junk parts, as I was told by bike repair shop owner. So they will be happy to get rid of stuff.

Try asking hotels and motels if they have any sheets, blankets, comforters, towels and even old clothes they're going to throw away. If sheets and towels get stained or have holes in them they usually just toss them. And the lost and found boxes sometimes have clothes, shoes and other random stuff.

Don't use old gas mask filter for props use old gas mask and mod them to look cool with hoses wires and stuff as a prob or get a real 3m respirator with new filters and cool goggles for 10-15 € at a hardware store. you can mod/grime them and still have them working right!

Shad Draner just don't breathe in mould spores, that can make you really sick or kill you if it starts growing in your lungs. The best way to clean mould off things is borax powder mixed in white vinegar. That's what I use. The borax will kill the mould on the item and it's roots under the surface. Borax is fairly safe too if you get it on yourself (unlike bleach which only kills surface mould and not the roots)

I think a lot of people, when they first get into postapo and find stuff think, that they must use the exact same things and make it look exactly the same. But actually, I find that a great way of figuring out where to get stuff is to think like a character from a setting they're going for. Then it all gets obvious, that things like second-hand stores, garages, barns, junkyards, military stores and so on are great places. And if some of those are unavailable to you, think of what could be in them, and think where to find similar ones - flee markets and internet. (btw, wild garbage dumps can also be a good source. Sometimes, when going through forests somewhat close to cities, you can find old washing machines, refrigerators, car parts, tv's and stuff like that. Mostly - it's garbage, but sometimes you can find useful stuff) Then there's full on scavenger mode, but for that it's best to have some knowledge about the setting for the outfit, general idea of what you want to do/how you could use different parts for future builds, and general idea about postapo style itself. With all that knowledge you see, what can be useful in stuff that normally you'd throw out. I'm currently making a breastplate from leftover steel sheet tiles, that I got when my friend was replacing a roof in his house. It's good to analyse pictures on the internet, how someone made something, what things were used, generally deconstruct it, reverse engineer it. It's also good to look at for example Making Of off Fury Road. They show in greater detail things used there, explain what they used, how they made it. Then you can see what of that is available to you, what can you get that's similar, and then experiment. And most importantly - think like your character would, and be safe scavenging. Oh, and when shopping, it's good to look for things, that you can use now or in the future, rather than having one strict shopping list. Because ya'know, you'll hardly ever find exactly what you're looking for or it would take ages. But just know, that you are actually going to use them, that you have a vision for where you can use it, because, as in the video, getting too much and not using half of it is not a great idea. As for gas masks - some of the old ones, like the russian GP-5, have asbestos in their filters. So even brand new, unused, properly stored, from a military store can be dangerous!

A while back while building a costume for a post apo LARP, a friend of mine grabbed me a car tire. We made a pauldron out of it, and it was surprisingly comfortable. We jammed a couple hooks through it and held it on with a ratchet strap. Then again I'm used to wearing a very heavy leather moto jacket loaded down with spikes and buttons. Also we balanced it out a bit by having the other pauldron, a much lighter one, made of neoprene pads and stenciled with nuclear symbols. Also held on with a ratchet strap.

Number next! Bicycle shops!!!!!!!!! I build bicycles and ride them every day, you are talking chains, sprockets, brake parts, cable housing, braided steel cable, innertubes, brake levers, handlebars, pedals, derailleurs can often be taken apart for cool springs and plates, best of all, every bike shop has a scrap bin full of stretched chains, worn out tyres and sprickets, and punctured innertubes, ask and you shall receive! (the rear cassete cluster of gears on mots modern bikes wear out and are cheap as hell for steel ones, but have 1-3 bolts holding them together, they are all flat!) absolute gold mines!

Hey everyone. I have a resource for you to consider. Now in Europe I don't know how it works out for you because of space being more of a premium than it is for the junkyard capital of planet earth, the United States of America! First Imperial Asylum of the planet of clocks. Yaaay!! Ok so you can go to used car parts store lots. Like here in Florida for instance there's a place called ' Barely Used Auto Parts ' store. Now you go there with a buddy or six bring canvas bags of tools ( make sure you bring a battery powered drill with lots of bits and sockets ,batteries, and a wheelbarrow ). Go out and 'pull' parts out that you want or need. It's a good source of stuff you can use and modify if you're a crafty bugger, ( even if you're not crafty but just a bugger , to each you're own . Yip? ) . Now what kinda goodies can you scarf ? Well you sometimes can get the metal vehicle manufacturer's logo off ( imagine a VW logo on your armor )or sometimes the model logo like from an old Ford Falcon and create a new character called Falcon, Capt. Falcon or Capt. Bugger Falcon ! )Also take a look at headlight and taillight metal frames, rings ( keep the plastic lenses ,no keep ' em, you can spray metal colors on them or like in Mad Max and mount 'em unpainted onto your shoulder pads. There's a lot of stuff here for prop weapons to use too. Don't ask me what 'cause I'm not gonna try an think that hard ' cause I'm not a thinker but a buggerer ok? Also if you're really industrial ( not me of course 'cause buggerer, remember? Yip Yip ) . Now something else to consider. A fiend of mine,( yes I said fiend , ...you don't KNOW him! ) Made fake nails and spikes using liquid polymer clay mold making kit and made molds of some nails and designed some as well as his own spikes . Filled the molds with some latex rubbery stuff ( ah latex rubbery stuff yum! ) Now if you're crafty AND buggery you can get creative here. Auto destruction scrap yards are good too ( now get permission to be there, unless the owner or manager is into crafty buggery or wierd tools or something ,then do that! ) then troll the treasure trove. I hope this helps some of you Crafty Buggers get some cool stuff or attract some fiends , trolls , desert rats or rust crabs ( I believe there's a spray for that, good, but don't tell Me about it ' cause I got my own fiend and I'm not sharing him with any of You! Nop, Nop ' cause he's a true fartist...uh artist!) So try this here cool stuff, get some new and exciting skin infections or infestations, rust crabs, trolls , don't forget the trolls they've got some cool weird hair styles and find yourself a good fiend they're better than gold if they're artists! Ok have fun you crazies. Wacky Woo! Goobie...Goobie , from the First Stug of the 23rd Desert Nod Zone Patrol , " Our War Wags Are Made Of Rust!" "Love Is A Good Antibiotic Cream or Anti STD Oinment"

I got the idea of a post apocalyptic impression from a couple of my airsoft club mates. First place I looked for supplies was in my own workshop, all the old stuff that I hoard thinking 'it might come in useful one day' Well, this project is using a pile of it. Stuff like a nearly worn-out tool belt, the safety harness that I had to retire after it reached the end of it 10 year useful life, a sheet of closed cell foam, metal fittings etc. After that, I raided the waste bin at work - cut offs of walkway matting from a TPO roof install, more metal bits and pieces that may be useful. Lastly, my nearest city's dump has a shop that sells useful stuff that they salvage from what people throw away, I paid them a visit when I was in the area doing a job, what a great place for supplies for this hobby...old clothes, discarded household items and parts of, old personal protective equipment, leftover building supplies, paint, bike parts...no need for a big stockpile myself :-)
@noahbasara85297 жыл бұрын
"I Better faster ways to solve the problems at hand." This is very true. Another way to think about it (and get into character while building) is how would I do this in a real apocalypse? How can I solve this the easiest way possible? This works 9/10 times and you only have to make exceptions to this if you are using power tools instead of a real apocalypse where you might not have any.
