Loved the quaint old style MOI films, especially enjoyed Cyril Fletcher's odd ode. He still makes me laugh

With the child crossing the road (in the UK) the advice in this clip is actually dangerous - "look right, look left" is the wrong order. You should always look right LAST as this is the direction traffic closest to you will be approaching. The best advice is the "green cross code" - "Look right, look left then look right again, If clear cross smartly (don't run).

Yes, but in England they drive on the left side of the road. In addition to that, the brightness of the equinox is slightly closer to Antarctica on the first day of April; and on odd days it snows in Siberia on Mount Devonshire.

In America, it's look Left, right, and left again. I'm sure in England it would be, look right, left, and right again.

Couldn't have been distributed in 1939 because the very first thing the narrator says is "in 1940...."

I wonder if the Home Guard recruits had to supply their own broomsticks. Oh dear, that African avoiding the lion looks like he escaped from The Black and White Minstrel Show --- it definitely was a different time.

How can this be 1939 when it describes events up to late 1940?

More like 1942 or even 1943. The Germans did not invade Russia until the summer of 1941 and it took a while before the Soviets started to drive them back.

I need to make a slight correction for 8:15-8:30. Those *aren't* GWR travel warnings for Christmas 1941, they're in fact "Passenger Benefits" as tweeted by South Western Rlwy at 19:41 last night! :-p ;-) Also: Am I the only one who sees a confirmable Boris Johnson at 18:05? :-)

What would these people make of Safe Spaces and gender neutral toilets. etc etc..

Indeed, what would a man who took a dump in a trench while being shelled and bombed say to someone who fears to use a washroom if someone from the wrong gender might have used the same toilet earlier, or worse, wash up at the same sink!

The last one is post WWII. The Labour government had nationalized coal mines and the electrical power companies in 1946. Labour felt they needed full control of these basic industries if the businesses of Britain could produce enough export good to pay for the crushing debts of the war. As usual, such planned economy attempts failed, and coal miners went on strike at the same time electrical workers walked off their jobs. Homes only got seven hours a day with power so manufacturing plants could produce export goods. The winter of 1947 saw British shivering in the dark, and things only got worse from there. As usual, socialists blamed the citizens for their failures.

Really bad attempt at re writing history. The worst snowfall for goodness knows how long brought the country to a halt.

Labour's nationalisation programme in the late 40s and 50s was really just a continuity of the war economy. It was never really a success and industry as a whole was hampered by poor management and short sighted trades union policies.

Nope. They took their turn like everyone else. Only military aircraft operated a 'priority' passenger category system - and neither Brit civilians nor foot soldier grunts did much riding on aircraft in WW2.

All British railway operations have a direction. Kinda like rivers have 'upstream' and 'downstream'.
@kevinmothers904

It is a train that is going in the opposite direction to an ' Up Train'. Down line = away from London. Up line = towards London. This applies to whatever part of the country you are travelling from.
