NUKATAP Faucet Demo - Forward vs. Rear Sealing Tap Review

This week we review the NUKATAP forward sealing faucet for beer dispensing.
I admit I've been sitting on this product for several months because I wanted to give it an honest review. The only way to really evaluate a beer faucet is to use it through at least a full keg of operation or more. Every faucet can pour beer but how does it perform when not pouring beer was what I wanted to experience.
The primary difference between faucets on the market is if they seal in a forward position or the rear position inside the faucet. The NUKATAP faucet is a forward sealing faucet with new designs for smoother flow and reduced foam.
After several months of use with this faucet, I can't recommend the NUKATAP enough. Even when I let it sit unused with beer behind it for several weeks at a time, it never sticks and the pour was always very smooth.

Thanks Mike, I've used both types. I went back to standard faucets because my drunken relatives who stay up and drink my beer after I've went to bed cant seem to carefully push the forward sealing taps back to the off position. I've had two kegs drained onto the garage floor using the forward sealing faucets. Additionally, with the standard faucets, I'm forced to clean the lines and taps more often. Spraying some star san up and around the faucet after each pint seems to help with the sticking.

That's awful! I should have mentioned I have these little blue mini brush plugs that only fit in the standard faucets. I spray them with starsan before inserting them into the faucets. That seems to extend the time it takes before the faucets stick shut to much. Thanks for the comment! Cheers! -Mike

Thanks - I just changed out my rear sealing and was nervous about the keg leaking out when I connected it first. I had problems with my Intertap, but the Perlick tap is a champion!!!

That sounds pretty distressing. Glad you've gotten it worked out. I had a leak in a keg of Porter many years ago and nearly all of it wound up on the floor. Shame because the last couple pints in the keg we absolutely heavenly. Cheers! -Mike

First....Best description of a rear sealing Tap (faucet) vs a Forward sealing TAP! ....lol....Amazing guys just had to pour a half pint ( UK) of an IPA whilst listening to this. Top....By the way I use the standard Intertap taps for my beer pours from my kegerator all the time. Have you used the tapcooler counter pressure bottle filler yet, it's ace! I've done literally hundreds, almost thousands of bottles by now....Soon the counter pressure can filler is on the way to me too.....Cheers one love to you guys!....

Wish the tap faucets I clean used the nukataps. I do the average ones and always try to replace any brass with stainless. It makes a difference with corrosion. Thanks for video!

Thanks for the video Mike. My Nukataps arrived today, and just saw your vid today too. I hooked up a couple taps and poured and got more foam than my standard taps! Weird as I have about 2 - 2.5 meters of 4mm ID beerline running at 12PSI. Had the balance dialed in with the standard taps. Now I'm a bit lost! Did you have to adjust balance at all with the Nuka?

Nope. Mine worked pretty much the same as my other faucets as far as foaming goes. Seems strange to me. DId you clean the faucets well before install? Maybe you're getting some nucleation in the faucet. Its been a few days, so I hope you've figured it out. Cheers! -Mike

@@BrewDudes Thanks Mike, ... I did give it a good soak in sodium percarbonate, then a rinse in starsan before first use. I've been playing around a little with temp and pressure, it's better, but probably will tweak for a bit as still having to discard the first part of the pour. Cheers!

My 2nd hand kegerator came with abused and corroded rear sealing faucets. I went straight to front sealing Perlicks and they rock. Btw kegland absolutely named it nukatap after the A-Bomb looking shuttle.

Btw, I did go full SS with flow control, and I also have the Perlick growler filler. The only downside is they aren't cheap.

I have never experienced the stuck tap issue that apparently plague the rear sealing taps, and after attempting to remove the corrosion on the non-stainless taps for about 15 minutes I figured that SS would save me at least the cost differential over my brew career in reduced maintenance. If you go for quality you only buy once and you only cry once.

I use the same growler filler that you have in the video on my intertaps and it works just fine. Almost better than the intertap filler spout that I have

New to the updated faucet game but, mine didn't have a spring, however multiple videos have had a spring in them.... are they needed? I just installed a nukatap, for reference

A bit late for the party, but if you're still wondering, this is not needed, but it's a great feature if you have guests that leave the taps running, or kids, or heavy tap handles that could magically open the faucet. Also helps when seals are old and failing. The drawback is that you cannot leave the tap running by itself: Annoying when you want to fill up large bottles, take pictures, or anything that requires you to be slightly away from the tap, or the use both hands while pouring.

I have the stout nozzle on one of my intertaps, and serve the stouts with CO2, and I get the lovely creamy head anyway. Nitro will make it creamier, but with CO2 is not far behind.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I suffered using a rear sealing faucet for 2+ years before making the switch to forward sealing. Worth every penny. I have 3 intertaps. But it looks like this brand is a good product as well.

I had been looking into the intertaps when KegLand sent us this one to try out. I have off and on heard that there were some supply and quality issues with intertap but maybe that has gone past us know. I remember the vent matics got very popular but then the company started to fail and the customer service was garbage. Nukatap is another source for forward sealing. I'm just saying its good to see this design change becoming available through more vendors. Cheers! -Mike
