On this episode Rob chats with 17-year-old founder of Australia’s first youth-lead campaign for nuclear energy: Nuclear for Australia, William Shackel. William is actively pushing for the reconsideration of Australia's unique ban on nuclear energy, positioning himself at the forefront of this crucial debate in the Australian landscape. Motivated by his youthful perspective, he is dedicated to addressing the pressing issues surrounding the current and future climate and energy crisis. As Australia grapples with discussions on renewables and strives to achieve its 2050 Net Zero target, William contends that lifting the ban on nuclear energy is a pivotal step towards securing a sustainable future for Australia and subsequent generations.

It is imperative to include all options when you want to identify the best approach to move forward. Lifting the ban will allow for every option, or mix of options, to assessed and eventually selected or dismissed based on their own advantages and disadvantages. Importantly lifting the ban will make us understand and allow us to discuss and rank the financial, technical and environmental implications based on stated criteria that can be applied to all options. With the ban remaining no one will every be sure that the best technology was selected for Australias future, what ever that technology turns out to be.

What a smart young man. At the same time, what a terribly condescending interviewer. Fortunately, he doesn't have much time left.

I thought the point is to point out that nuclear energy is distinctly little to do with nuclear weapons. But the title of this video is talking about Nukes.

Nice to see the energy debate thinking about alternative solutions. BUT... Perhaps it would be more effective as a discussion to have a Year 11 student on TikTok where an audience who might relate to him better would actually be, instead of a CIS old policy wonk ecco chamber LOL
