They stage it, and then act scared and leave because they know as little information or footage presented, means less loose ends in proving what they say. Chinese believe that we have 3 invisible lights on our body. 1 on top of the head and 1 on each shoulder. So when people usually get mad and curse the energy we give off is usually very aggressive. Therefore by cursing at spirits and acting mad they believe all three flames will glow brighter and stronger which will scare off the spirits. We also have prayers that ward off spirits too. It really depends on the person I guess.
