I keep harking back to my time in the auto industry some 20-odd years ago... I had a very small hand in the development of the 147GTA. Alfa wanted a headline figure of 250BHP from the V6 for the GTA. The regular "cooking" 147s had an exhaust layout that couldn't be altered for the GTA for cost reasons. My job was to make the exhaust internals flow well enough to allow 250 hp while keeping all the giblets inside the physical space available. As well as making it sound good and meet noise regs. I'm quite proud of that part of my career.

Glad to see it back in its clean glory! I have had both those codes crop up a lot as well! The MCS failure was the lambda sensor for mine and generally cropped up after driving in the rain and then leaving it to dry out and the right side light normally comes up after the car has gotten wet, normally if I turn it off and on it disappears! The joys of Alfa wiring and electronics! Look forward to seeing more!

Hey Jack! About the errors: yes sometimes when you change the battery if you connect the negative first the engine light comes on, and sometimes just the fact of changing it will cause that. The side lights is a common issue, they are a bit of a pain to change but they tend to do a bad connection and the resistance in the circuit goes low and the error shows, get new ones, clean the contacts and you should be ok. For diagnostic and other things in those get a good ELM 327 cable and a software called: MultiEcuScan. I use it for years, and is well known in all the Alfa community as the best software that does everything even dealer level stuff. Any questions about the 147 i can help, i had a lot of them and i know them in and out :) Oh to reset all the car and make it re-learn your driving style there are the steps: Negative battery pole of for 45 min minimum; Them battery connected and start the engine without touching in anything, just start it and leave it running for 15 minutes, then go for a drive where you use all gears and rpms etc no least than 30 mins.

Ages ago, I was given advice by a bodywork guy who said that a Car only needs two washes ... One when you buy it and one for when you sell it ! In the meantime the dirt protects the paint and washing a car badly wrecks the paintwork ... eg. using Automatic Car Washes ... Finally, if it's really 'pretty' someone will want to steal it ...

I was going to say this. I'm some ways a layer of crud protects the paint front the UV rays of the sun too. I've seen many a old car/ motorbike covered in oil/ crud cleaned up looking like new. Only time I'd tackle a build up of crud is the winter with the road salt..

Either way, some future owner 10 years down the line will be wondering why the paint finish is deteriorating and rust bubbling all over!😁
