Olá, Sylvia! When spelling out words, we can use that, for example - CARRO (C - A - 'dois' Rs - o). In this case, we use 'dois' Rs meaning 'double' R. Doing the same with phone numbers would be highly confusing in Portuguese - 5667790 (5 'dois' 6 'dois' 7 9 0 = could be interpreted as 5 '2' 6 '2' 7 9 0) 😕 It is better to read each number separately (5 6 6 7 7 9 0) 😊

Oi Billy, Thanks for your question. Well, the most common uses of 'meia = 6' are with phone numbers, ID, license plates, house numbers...whenever you have a numerical sequence and numbers are said one by one. When it comes to prices, it is not so usual to say 'meia', unless you are saying each number separately. E.g. a ticket costs R$ 165 - option #1 - o bilhete custa cento e sessenta e cinco / option #2 - o bilhete custa um, meia, cinco (possible to use it, but not so common) 😊

One thing I'm struggling with: the 'm' sound at the end of 'tem' and 'um' sounds more like an 'n' like the Spanish un where the tongue touches the roof of the mouth and the lips don't come together. It looks like your lips don't close when making that sound. Is that right? Or does the 'm' sound at the end of a word sometimes involve closing the lips? Muito obrigado!

Olá, Ronald! At the begining of the lesson on the uses of 'NEM' (link below), I give a tip on how to make the final 'M' sound in Portuguese.
