Very interesting and helpful. I drive a C2 manual 991.2 and have had it since new for 5+ years, so I clearly still like it 🙂. However, for me at least, its weakest link by far is the 7-speed gearbox. It moves around its gate quickly enough but the resonance you experience (....through picking up any item...) feels exactly what it actually is: mainly plastic and light alloy. It could be a shifter straight out of a Golf - at least for 'feel'. So, I completely get the 'Numeric thing'. In fact, I'm looking more for 'engagement feel' than reducing or increasing leverage, ditto speed around the gate etc.. It's that 'resonance factor' you feel through in the hand.... between, say, a carbon racket or a wooden one, irrespective of preference or performance. That's the 'feel' I want to improve. Therefore, do you know if Numeric now recommends placing those washers around the two retaining bolts as now 'standard practice' to ensure you clear the 'white or black' connectors or is this a one-off with your particular car ? You also mentioned that you re-set the lever a few mill lower on your final installation. What's the overall setting variation ? Are we talking 10 mm or more ? And along that spectrum where do you think you've set your final position - mid-way, lowest setting etc. ? It'd be great to hear from you.

I don't know if Numeric recommends replacing those washers. Id say my final setting was a little less than halfway between original height and lowest setting but I did not take any measurements so I can't give you a precise answer. Also, regarding the leverage, yes, that can be adjusted based on the final height. By going lower, you feel there is a little less leverage therefore takes a little more effort. Combine that with the 2mm spring and the aluminum construction of the shifter, it all adds to the engagement feel. In my opinion, that's all it's really about. It just changes the feel of the shifting. I hope that answers some of your questions.

Thank you for the video. Very well done. I live in Albuquerque where it can get in the 20's in the morning. At those temps I find the shifts into 1st and 2nd in my 2018 C2 to be pretty stiff. I like the idea of the short shifter but am concerned to make that even stiffer. It looks like you live in SoCal so have you had any experience with cold morning shifts?

Thanks for watching! Actually, I'm in South FL so no idea about cold weather shifts unless by cold you mean in the 60s lol.

Yes sir! I live in savanna and my kids go to imagine next to Publix… I was looking at getting the short shift kit and ran across your video… and I’m like, this is def from Weston. Haha! I’m assuming you still love the short shifter … my T has been lowered, Cobb tune, BMC filter, and catless pipes… the difference is night and day,

@@fickstit2839 Not regard for not changing the cable so far? My installer says that the cable adds certain amount of vibration and noise to the driving experience, and says he doesn’t recommend it unless original cables are broken.

Thanks for this video. Been contemplating getting this and struggling to decide whether to go all in with the cables. In your opinion, are you pretty happy with just the numeric shifter and stock cables? Do you have the urge to change out the cables?

We always get asked this, and we always say the shifter is a must. And it really is. The shifter alone will make it a night and day difference and will reduce your slop over 75%. The other 25% is in the cables and will really improve the precision shifting. But worst case, do the shifter and then upgrade the cables.

I don't have experience with BOTH shifter AND cables... just the shifter. But I would have to agree with the recommendation by Numeric in the reply below. They are indeed the experts on this. If you are paying someone to install it and don't mind dropping the extra $800-$1k to have the cables installed (parts and labor), then go for it! I wanted to do the install myself but the cables were a little intimidating which is why I went with the shifter only. As I get more comfortable working on my vehicle, I may decide to tackle the cables.
