Appreciate the tip on the circulating 50p salmon as well as the lovely selection of raw and graded coins.

Great to see an arrival and unboxing video in one, great selection of coins again!! I think the designs from the Royal mint are great, comparing it with the Dutch mint. But like the royal mint, 95% of there coins decrease in value over time. It's better to buy them at auction, one year later.
@Numistacker7 күн бұрын
Is that right? If you buy them at auction one year later you pay auction commission but they do not increase in value
@sander50867 күн бұрын
@@Numistacker in the Netherlands we have gold €10 coins, they are issued 2 or 3 times a year, to remember a special event. But they cost way too much, at issue price. Most of them sell for their gold value, at the major action houses in The Netherlands only one year after they were issued. So I like a design (is not happening that often), I will buy it at one of the action houses, a few years later.

I think the Queen’s fifth portrait shield 2024 Last of the rose gold designs is worth honourable Mention

I usually "shy away" as you say, from the collector coins and medals created by mints, either goverment or private mints, who seems to me started this whole product line.

I remember the 2014 proof Britannia taking a long time to sell out at the mint, my favourite coins are those that take their time to establish themselves. And i love trying to pick the winners, that is part of the fun and if it was easy, well, where would the fun in that be?
@darkelf26749 күн бұрын
Thanks, very interesting. I prefer to stick to the Sovereigns myself, where you get a guarantee of the intrinsic value. I also like the Queens beasts silver series, especially the red dragon, but then we go down the dangerous route of personal preference!
@DerekWalsh-l4i9 күн бұрын
The new sovereigns will have an intrinsic, or spot, value of about £460 each, but are due to go on sale for £860 each. I'm out.
@darkelf26749 күн бұрын
@@DerekWalsh-l4i I agree there. I prefer the older sovereigns, where you may pay a premium, but get some ‘numismatic’ value as well.

I hope so. I ordered plain old bullion half sovereigns from RM and they sent me these 2022s in blister packs, not complaining though 😊

Fads and popularity wax and wane. Last year I bought an 1887 half sov (fan favourite?) In the lst year the premiums have tanked. Given the geopolitical/economic uncertaincies it makes sense. Seems to me that buying semi numismatic coins now is a good time as any...

Beautiful coins - but not really collectors item considering the limited issue and hence the price - available to the rich collectors only and the specific genre collectors - out of reach for most people
@zbigniewczaykowski5149 күн бұрын
Not from the royal mint with what they charge and their premiums, on the secondary market , yes.

@Numistacker9 күн бұрын
It is not the particular coin, which is rare, however like the kew Gardens, a lot of the non-rare derivatives may also go up in price.

The Queen’s beast series was one of those that everybody felt was a winner and so it became a winner.

Prices are pulling back from the excessive expectations from collectors however. At least in the bullion. We'll see if it stands up to father time. Especially in the face of desirable newer things, with their own hype trains, blaring horns, spot lights and all
