Fabulous to listen to this piece. Brings back wonderful memories of our wedding day 3rd June 1972 at Aston Parish Church, Birmingham, UK. We walked out of church to this piece. We have now been married for 45 glorious years.

Excellent again Tim! The run after @2.35 is different to what I know, though I have not got the music infront of me, I could be wrong. I always found this quite hard to play, there are some strange chords in places and I am never sure if I play them right, because they kind of sound wrong even when they are played right..if you know what I mean.
@GrandeBombarde1613 жыл бұрын
@RobCharles1981 Many thanks, Rob! :-)
@GrandeBombarde1613 жыл бұрын
@goodchappy Thank you very much, Peter! The passage after 2:35 probably sounds different because I don't play it in the mainstream legato fashion, which, btw, also leaves out the "D" written at the end of the scale. My two scores, including the original 1909 Carl Simon edition (from Berlin, Germany), agree on the composition of that passage, so the "differences" that you notice stem only from the execution. Yes, this piece can be difficult, but I've developed fingerings that make it "easy."

For TALL players.....I've posted this clip on FB to illustrate the complex physiology when a tall organist plays an ill-designed console. This talented young man might be criticized for his poor posture....but can he help it? Look carefully at what is happening here. The bench is too low, and therefore one can easily see he must pull his knees up merely to release the pedals, keeping his back painfully stressed and arched in the process. Meanwhile he's playing a keyboard that is just about low enough to be in his lap. Then look at the music rack. He's arching his neck upwards in jerks in order to see a music rack that is about a foot above the swell! If a 5'2" organist played this instrument, it would fit better, but it might be impossible to see or reach the music. Admittedly the human race is getting taller, and many ancient organs were indeed designed for a smaller race of people. The late Dutch organist Feike Asma was a huge, tall man, and there were many organs he simply couldn't pry himself into. At the Hinsz organ in Bolswatrd, NL I watched him play while his knees were lodged tightly under the Rugwerk. Even this accomplished organist couldn't make that look easy. Properly designed consoles are essential for the organ student. Later, when they're more accomplished, they can play under "combat conditions". There is NO technique to physiologically adapt to a poorly-designed and ill-fitting console. Kudos on a first-rate performance under some of the worst conditions!

I really like it! very good phrasing. THx also for linking the specification. One question: what is the difference between the Tromba and the Trumpet on the Great?
@GrandeBombarde1610 жыл бұрын
fluteceleste Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed! The 8' Tromba is an extension of the 8' Trumpet in the Pedal. The Trumpet and Tromba are fairly similar in timbre, but very powerful when combined.

Terrific performance: technically brilliant with every phrase beautifully articulated and a well-balanced registration. The overall tempo is spot on but my only teensy criticism is that some of the phrases are just a little bit too rubato. But bravo sir: best performance of one of my favourite organ pieces that I've seen and heard on KZbin!
