thanks fast john, It is a mk2 rs 2000 engine but a 2.4 all forged with 48mm jenveys throttle bodies with cams and some head work, the ecu is a dta s40 then. At the moment it is 220bhp at 7k but we only mapped it to 7k (this is the first car me and my mate have mapped) and the power was still going up. Going to make some changes to it over christmas and see if we can get 240/250bhp and a big chunk of mid range power out of it.

Nice work with the car but let me give you some advice. If you learn the track & can drive a lap in your head, knowing what gear you want for what corner & where exactly you want to place the car, you'll easily do a sub-9 minute lap with the car exactly as it appears in the video. Also, I could hear your rubber scraping against the bodywork in a few places so there is a bit of work to do there as well.

Sounds good and sensible quick driving but found myself gritting my teeth after a while, willing you to blip the throttle to rev match your down shifts to smooth out the gear transitions and stop that crunching of gears.

freddy686868 Ah, the old N7A engine? I'm surprised you didn't go for the belt driven Zetec. I agree the Pinto's are a bit rough and fecking heavy compared to modern engines. Puzzled as to why you chose this engine. They only have a simplex cam chain don't they? Have you thought about a Honda S2000 engine and box conversion. 240bhp out of the box. Will have a look at your blog.

bugattieb110ss that base yes but it started life as a 2.3 Y5A the chain drive is simple very much like a belt drive just stronger. They are a good solid engine and everything is just built to last much like the pinto but a modern design. The zetec is a waste of money imo i hate that engine too :P. I like to build something a bit different to the rest and these engines were hardly used when i put mine in. The honda engine and box are a great combo but they are not tunable after 260bhp and you can't build them like i have my engine plus i couldn't afford £2500/£3000 in one pop. I would love to honda an escort one day they maybe the B16B as it would be a challenge to rwd one.

***** yeah close ratio tranx type 9 box (with a poor syncro as stated) but she is geared for 140mph and will do that too but it is a hard pull up the hills. I try to keep it drive able but try to keep the gearing short as well so it is always going to be a compromise.

Syncros were gone in the box. They are rubbish with a high reving motor. I swapped out the tran x type 9 for an rx8 box in the end. Ended all my problems and was a much cheaper box. Third crunches going up and down the box. Hard to rev match going up the box. Haha

REALLY???? Any 2.4 worth it's salt in rallying is 300BHP plus. To be honest unless its right in the rev band this sounds flat as a fart particularly in the higher gears!

built this in my shed and mapped it myself, it isn't the best engine out there but it is my engine. Made the same power on the same dyno as a jre built redtop my motor just had more torque. It is geared for 150mph too so it's a long final drive
