Nice driving. The NC is a wonderful little gem of a car. You have a lot of faith in your track knowledge and the car itself to push that hard. Really enjoyed the video.
@philipholland42804 жыл бұрын
That brown trousers moment at 5:02 was caused by front left tyre hitting the arch-liner, as I had set the ride height too low. The Ohlins setup for the NC has reasonably soft springs (70N/mm front, 40N/mm rear), which makes for a very nice riding road car. This however means you need to be careful setting the ride height for track work. It has the OEM ARBs, Ohlins tune the damper to work with the OEM setup. The ND I replaced this also had Ohlins, however they were 100 front & 40 rear. The ride was not as good but it never bottomed out like that.

What a small world. I was driving the grey Seat at the beginning of the video. Now I have a MX5 ND and found your vide when looking for NS videos of MX5 with OHLINS R&T :) Handling seems to be nice! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ7GoXylptNkb6s :)

Ha, no way. I hand't seen this comment until now. I checked out the video, you can see my car in your rear view mirror. Your Cupra was very quick, but glad you moved to an ND. I have a few videos in my ND on the NS too. Looking forward to some NS action in 2021!

What are your thoughts on the 16" wheels vs the stock 17s? I've heard that described as "slower but more fun".

Good video, not too bad behind the wheel too! Do you rate the BBR upgrades? Looking at one with a similar setup. I've owned a standard power NC but wondered if it's worth going for the 200BBR instead.

GMak81 Same here. I think for financial reasons I'll go for a modular install, so the Super 185, then the 200... maybe working up to the 225 for the amazing sound of the ITBs, but I have an NC1, and apparently the engine is not as sound as later NC iterations with the forged internals. Plus, it costs £4000 total, so a big investment for me.

On a horsepower like 175bhp (I'm installing the super175 on my 1.8 NC sometime soon :) ) 16''s are recommended rather than 17''? On 215/45-50 maybe? So the car won't lose the fun on road use. Maybe some tenths at lap time but that's ok, we're not racing. Also impressions on the Ohlins?
@aisu84816 жыл бұрын
Says above he's running 45 sidewalls. I'm guessing its just rotational mass reduction. In theory, you'll lose the tiniest bit of contact patch, and have a more abrupt differential in contact pressure from tire to road, so it may be a tad bit less stable. This video verifies what I'm referring to: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4HcmGafodxmgbc In the wet, however, the 16's are more predictable due to the more abrupt pressure differential from front to center of the contact patch. The narrower contact patch decreases buoyancy.

Happy with the tires? Considering them for my NC as well.
@philipholland42807 жыл бұрын
Yes, very happy. I switched from 17s to 16s for track work - 225/45/R16. Decent value too. Best tyre ever.

Good to know, although I'll probably stick with my 17's. Great driving btw, good to see what's possible with the car!

I’m finally going to come out and say that my BBR200 might have been a better car than the BBR stage 2 turbo I’m running now, even though it has 50% more power.

Hey nice driving, did you put some new anti sway bars or just Ohlins coilovers ? Wanna reduce bodyroll on mine
@philipholland42805 жыл бұрын
Just Ohlins. Have an ND now which has a lot less body roll, but is also a lot less comfortable. I would avoid sway bars with Ohlins as the Ohlins kit is setup to with with standard anti-roll bars.

@@GMak81 It's not worth it imo , theres a very small real world difference against a standard car . Super 200 owner here . 2 more grand would give you Corten Miller charger , now that makes a huge difference and keeps the car usable just much faster .
@GMak813 жыл бұрын
@@mantazini Thanks for the feedback. Obviously 200 hp is not face meltingly fast, but I thought it would be noticeable to have 25% more power. I had briefly looked into superchargers, but I couldn't really justify spending the same amount as another whole car just on one engine component! Tbh the way I only use the car for b road bashing, it's fast enough as is, and mazda built it to be thrashed, which I can do in stock form. So I'm now thinking of just adding a backbox for more theatre, and keeping the £4000 for other projects.

@@GMak81 This one is really weird one . For example , with super 200 you hussle Clios , Type Rs , sub 200 bhp class , and it kind of feels a stepup , but once you are next to same standard power mx5 on long straight its hardly a difference , maybe 1 car length at best on a longer UK circuit straight like Bedford GP layout. So its 2 ways of looking at it really lol

Hi Mate, sorry it was done by BBR, and they don't give out the specs. Not a very aggressive setup. Factory anti-roll bars for example. The Ohlins are tuned to work best with the standard setup.

A LOT of unnecessary steering inputs, at 1:43 I literally had to facepalm. See-sawing the steering wheel back and forth. Seemingly intentionally causing oversteer on the corner prior to that. Not rev matching downshifts, very aggressive clutch and accelerator inputs also which are unsettling the car.
@philipholland42802 жыл бұрын
Fair comment Josh, I was overdriving to get past those 2 Civics that held me up on the last lap. The see-sawing was me trying to feel for grip. Rest of the lap was much cleaner, but I guess you only watched the first few minutes. PS. I can promise you I heel-and-toe religiously :-D.
