....in my day there were two 'evangelische' churches in Nurnberg - St Lorenz & St Sebaldus...on your way into to the towns in Franconia there would be signs - for the Catholic churches a yellow church - with the times of Mass listed, eg: (Heilige Messe 0900 1200 hr) and for the Protestant church, a purple sign, again with the times of services listed eg" (Gottesdienst 0900 1200 hr)..BTW - the standard greeting was 'Gruss Gott'...

.....50 plus years ago I walked these streets in Nurnberg on many of my Saturdays - I got to my duty station in Illesheim in November 1971 and went back home in July 1974...I was blown away Nurnberg on my first visit on the night of Friday, 12 Nov 1971...and YES I remember the exact date an day very well...there used'ta be a 'gypsy style' covered wagon with a blue top that sold bratwurst and brochen for 2 Marks just across the street from the hauptbahnhof...that wonderful smell would reach right out and grab you as you exited the station...I usually loaded mine mit 'senf' - that excellent spicy German mustard...got back once in 1994 - but my traveling days are over - and these vids are as close as I'll ever get again...thanx

That's a great story. I worked in Nuremberg for 11 years and lived there for 6 years. Nuremberg is a good 100 km away from my current place of residence. As I can see here, you have visited and seen the most beautiful corners of Nuremberg. The Kettensteg is one of the most beautiful places in Nuremberg's old town and the beer garden is highly recommended. The explanations that you have made here are very good - you could already be employed as a travel guide. The rock cellars, which are located under the entire old town, are still very interesting. But you have to have some time for this. A very nice film - I really liked it. 👏👏👏👍47

People must keep in much of what they are seeing are reconstructions. Germany was battered by three devasting wars. The Thirty Years War, which took years to recover from. The first and the second world wars. Very few German cities and towns escaped shelling, or bombardment during the last war. Nuremberg was heavily bombarded, and much of these historic sights are merely reconstructions. The level of skill in certain reconstructions varies, and not all of them were handled as well as they should have been. During the post war Era, some of the historic rebuilding, was check by Jowl with more modern structures. Some of this has been rectified lately, such as what has been done in the old quarter in Frankfurt.
