Agreed. What people often don't know and I learned this only a week ago, is that nearly third of parents sometimes think of lethally harming their babies! And the most likely time for committing such crime is days following the birth. Familicides have unfortunately been on the rise lately, we seriously need to talk about these things more.
@eramars5699 Жыл бұрын
100% correct, anyone who considers harming others should be placed in a secure facility where others can be kept safe from them until treatment is administered and recovery is made. It’s the same with school massacres, if parents or those around the children who considered such crimes and showed warning signs could alert the authorities and have those individuals detained until such time when they are no longer a threat, many lives would be saved. We absolutely need to take violent psychotic episodes and the warning signs that come before those episodes very seriously to prevent loss of life.

Re post partum depression: One of my best friends is a doctor here in the UK. She told me after the birth of her 3rd child (not before that) she believed she was a useless mother and wanted to kill herself and the new baby. Fortunately she has a brilliant marriage and her husband was so concerned about seeing his wife so low that he organised mental health support for her asap. He is a farmer, a bloke's bloke so I was doubly impressed. With the right support she quickly recovered and has never looked back.

The mental health excuse for murder seriously needs to stop. There are plenty of us who had it incredibly tough, with all kinds of problems including health problems, yet we don't murder our kids. Once you cross that line, you loose all the sympathy, you are just a shell without an ounce of humanity. Shame on that woman, she betrayed these kids. Same goes for the husband, who relied on a mentally ill(as he claims) woman for their children safety. They failed these children miserably.

While I understand the outrage, you have to understand that someone in full-blown psychosis isn't in their right mind at all. They see things, hear things, etc...Ever seen someone talking to themselves as if they're having a conversation with someone else? It would be like charging someone with brain damage with murder. Most likely, if she survives, she'll end up in a mental facility for a long time to get the treatment she needs.

RIP babies.. Postpartum is a horrible illness...when my daughter gave birth to my grandson ...he was only a little over 4 pounds...she was afraid and asked me to watch over him..I did until she was no longer scared of rolling over onto him. When he reached the rolling over stage..she would not watch him carefully and he would fall off her high platform bed and hit his head very hard onto the floor. When I would run into her bedroom she would just be standing there with no care to pick him up as he is screaming from the fall..she would say" Well I guess he'll learn not to do that again" I quickly picked him up cradling his head and body asking her why didn't you pick him up?( she had no concern) I was baffled and angry with her as I could not understand why a mother would treat her 3 months old that way. When my grandson was a few weeks old, my daughter told me that she was going to k ll herself. I was so confused as I did 95% of his care which included feedings, cleanings, and late night waking up to make sure he was still breathing. I showed her how to care properly for her son (it was a great struggle for her.) I much later pieced it together that she was suffering from post partum depression. He is now 6 yrs old and doing well. I still keep an eye out on him to make sure he is cared for properly because you never know.

She had such severe postpartum psychosis that she wanted to go inpatient in a facility, but was denied by her health insurance. So as a couple, Lindsay and her husband had to take matters into their own hands - he started working from home to help with the children & his wife. He left for 25 minutes to go get food and that’s all it took. This country is all about mistreatment & movements now a days & I only hope that what comes from this is a great deal of support towards forcing health insurance companies to recognize the severity of postpartum, and actually provide the funds to those who need help. Health insurance companies are terrible - my mother was denied physical therapy due to her rickets when she had cancer because as the company told me - “we’re not providing funds to somebody who has an incurable unsurvivable disease.” And she was in remission at the time. Which ever company denied her, needs to be held accountable for their decision. If you’re going to be making decisions financially about what you’re going to provide someone when they need help, then you should be held accountable when your choice causes some thing like this.

Still so painful today and I am close to 70 years old. I can't even imagine how bad it was for this beautiful, innocent boy of mine. But maybe me leaving him saved his life. He is a wonderful family and honest man today, and I believe he found it in his heart to love me again. I really believe I was sick then, but that doesn't take away the pain I caused. I can fully see how a woman post pregnancy can develop into postpartum depression or psychosis. I know that I had at - least the depression part with my first child at 19 yrs.old. I had no appetite, weighed 103 lbs., felt overwhelmed, had panic episodes, anger, flashes of wanting to harm to my child. Thank God I did not follow through with it. I felt unwell for at least 4 years afterwards. This was 40 yrs.ago. PPD and PPP had not been studied or known about as it is today. I had my second and third child following and never suffered those symptoms with them. I think hormones can really effect a woman or her having undiagnosed mental health issues that begin after giving birth. I do not judge, I unfortunately have experienced things going hay - wire.

People react to these stories with sheer emotion. They become incapable of processing any of the information. Nothing excuses murdering children. No one needs to even state that, although that’s all that’s stated. Ignoring the facts about these cases, where women kill there children, doesn’t help anyone. In most of the cases you’ll see, at best, a loving partner who ignored obvious signs of serious problems. At worst, just look into the Andrea Yates case, you’ll see something far worse. In the Yates case, her SEVERE mental health issues were documented and evident to the point of her being committed to institutionalized care multiple times between pregnancies. Someone in a long term mental health crisis like Andrea shouldn’t be having more children, and yes, there IS a responsibility at some point to the person impregnating a person like Andrea. This woman’s spouse may have had no clue anything was wrong and she just snapped. Or, maybe there were signs that there were some issues, but nothing that posed imminent concern. OR, maybe there were huge red flags and those were ignored. Questioning that shouldn’t be offensive to anyone. If there were few to no signs that this woman was going to do something so horrible, the spouse shouldn’t be offended at questions. And definitely strangers in the comments shouldn’t be blindly saying the man is a saint. Sympathy and empathy, OF COURSE. Regardless. But women killing their children suddenly isn’t common. So there’s a way to be empathetic while balancing that; we’re strangers. We know nothing other than this woman killed her kids. We should ask questions regarding it, at least in our minds. My point is, everyone needs to stop acting like they know wtf is going on with strangers on the internet when they know tiny crumbs of information.

The amount of people who don’t even have the most basic understanding of what postpartum PSYCHOSIS is. It’s *not* the same as postpartum depression. We are talking someone who was suffering a psychotic break, quite literally. People with postpartum psychosis can begin to hear voices, have visual hallucinations, paranoia, they can literally believe their children are demons or not really their kids. When she comes down from this and is back to reality, she may not even have any memory of doing this! That’s what psychosis is. It blows my mind to see the amount of people still calling her a monster or evil… no… she was extremely sick! AND it was well documented she was suffering and diagnosed with this condition before she killed her kids. She was seeking treatment five days a week from a psychiatrist and her husband was working from home to be with her! She should never have been left alone with the kids in the first place, someone should have been there to sit with her while her husband got food, OR better yet, she should have been hospitalized! EVEN HER HUSBAND IS ASKING PEOPLE TO SHOW HER COMPASSION AND STOP BLAMING HER. I doubt she will be considered competent enough to stand trial, she was not of sound mind when this happened.

I don't know why this is not common knowledge in the medical world. They would rather put them on antidepressants which can actually make them worse, or miss the root cause.

Stop JUSTIFYING this - no excuses

Justifying is not the correct word to use. They are simply giving you a reason why this may have happened.

@@frankiem4062 Justifying was the correct word because they are looking to have her evade responsibility if they can prove that she couldn't distinguish right from wrong. Which is bs because they immediately talk about the possibility of charging the husband instead right after.

@@frankiem4062 would you give reason if a man was the one who did this...last time I heard that if men killed their family or something along the lines, it is because men are just violent little creatures who need a curfew and need to be taught to keep their primal urges in check

How many more DRUG related crimes do we need to see before we pass bans on these substances?

Pretty sure this is exactly what Andrea Yates suffered with. She became convinced her children had the devil in them before drowning them all in a bathtub, then called 911 on her own. In her interviews it's obvious she wasn't in her right mind. What a horrific thing to suffer with, and horrible for all involved.

Andrea Yates called her husband at work because she was semi conscious and scared. She was hearing voices tell her to kill her children. She also had 5 children and no help and car to leave. She didn't try and kill herself because she didn't know what she did. This vile witch waited until her husband left and kept checking his gps to see how far away he was so she had enough time after strangling each baby. This witch got all the help offered plus more and was extremely wealthy. Big difference.

If I had a spouse that did this, I could not ever forgive them.

Omg this is heartbreaking. More and more examples why we need universal health care in this country. My heart breaks. These children are beautiful, as is she.

For real! We should only vote for leaders who we trust will support national healthcare legislation.

She was getting help 5 days a week it wasn’t the fact that she wasn’t cared for. The dad left the house for a half hour.

Husband is too forgiving too soon. Like bro, she killed all three of your babies. Gone forever. You forgive her for that?

He's lucky she didn't strangle him too; she probably knew he'd have fought back and won.

The thing I don’t understand about people hearing voices is why do they never tell the voices “NO!”
