Thanks for your question! PPIs work to reduce the production of acids, whereas antacids work to neutralize the acid already produced that may be causing symptoms. They are two different classes of medications. I hope this helps answer your question!

I didn’t understand!? Do we take them before or after a meal? In order to neutralize the acidity, then there should be an acid in the stomach, and this means these drugs should be administered after meals, is that right?

Antacids work as a base to neutralize the hydrochloric acid present in the stomach. By taking these medications on an empty stomach, it allows the acid to be neutral when food is ingested and additional acid is added to the stomach. حسين اني هم ما فهمت اكو بعضهم يقولون بعد الاكل و هنا بالمقطع تقول قبل الاكل؟

@@girlotaku7242 الأمر بسيط، عمل مُضادات الحموضة يعتمد على مُعادلة الوسط الحامضي الموجود في المعدة، يعني في المعدة يوجد حامض الـHCL مُفرز وأنا آخذ مُضاد حموضة (وهي مواد قاعدية)، فـ حامض + قاعدة = وسط متعادل، إذن نستنتج أن هذه الأدوية يُفضل أن تؤخذ بعد الأكل وكذلك من الممكن اخذهن عند الحاجة (مثلًا صارت عندي حرقة بالمعدة أو Gerd بأي وقت قبل او بعد الأكل، احيانًا قبل النوم، ممكن ناخذهن أيضًا) الخلاصة، مفعول هذه الأدوية يستمر ٣ ساعات تقريبًا اذا ناخذهن بعد الأكل، ويبقى ساعة أو أقل اذا ناخذهن قبل الأكل.
