In this video we cover some basic cardiac hemodynamics, specifically regarding the recovery of the open-heart surgical patient in the CVICU.
If you'd like more in-depth case studies and examples of how these hemodynamics are intertwined, let me know!

Thank you. I'm taking my AGACNP test on Tuesday and I needed a brush up in cardiac hemodynamics. Easy to understand and to the point.

Nurse Bass!!!! I just graduated nursing school this past Tuesday!! I thought about you when the speaker said to remember the people who encouraged you to keep going, it could be a partner, parent, classmate, or even a stranger and the first person I thought of was you. I came across your videos when I wanted to give up. I failed nursing school but decided to go back and finally finished! Thank you so much for your videos and encouraging words!! Much love!!❤️ For anyone else struggling right now: You can not fail unless you quit! Keep pushing and don’t give up on yourself!!

Starting in the CSICU as a new grad in about a month! Could definitely use more of this in the case study format like you mentioned! Cheers

More in depth look at the "Why" we see what we see aka hemodynamic changes and nursing interventions would be wonderful. I vote for a Hemodynamic Series or at least one, as you mentioned, that takes us a step further. Please strongly consider. Thanks

More in depth would be great! Especially with interpreting cardiac thermodilution profiles. I am a former ER nurse and now work in CVICU, probably about 9 months now. Just started taking devices and open hearts. I struggle with the thermodilution profiles the most out of everything

what was your experience before cvicu?? When did you feel ready? Do you still feel like a dumbA 8-9 months into CVICU? planning my jump over.

@@porcelaindolli3 My experience prior to CVICU was med-surg for 2.5 years. I've been in the CVICU for one year now, and I absolutely love it. I don't think I would ever work on another unit. The learning curve is steep, but very rewarding when you start putting the pieces together. Just in the year, I've been there, I've gained extensive knowledge on CV. I supplement my learning with Barron's CCRN review, ICU Advantage, and current literature. I think everyone feels like an idiot sometimes, but those feelings subside as you start to get acclimated. Make the move, and never look back! Best decision I ever made. Good luck!

@@jacklynkendall9134 thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm very focused and serious about getting to cvicu. I'm currently on cv pcu. I'm just a baby. I will flood myself with all of the resources you provided. I'm scared sh!tless but the fear is going to come regardless of my inevitable move over. thanks for your encouragement :))

Is this screen from a simulator or a live patient? If it's live data, I'm impressed that they're able to generate that BP and index while only being v-paced. Makes me wonder how much dobutamine and/or rocket fuel is infusing. That PA pulse pressure is really narrow too. Not sure what to make of that without considering the patient. Thanks for the video, NB!
@NurseBass
@NurseBass 2 жыл бұрын
Quite often if a patient is sick enough whenever they exit the OR, then they are on a bit of rocket fuel for a period of time. To your point, the patient is only being V paced and doesn’t have the atrial kick, but may be on vasoactive and/or inotropic drips such as epinephrine or milrinone. Also keep in mind as a side note, if the patient were on dobutamine then we should likely see the patient with their own intrinsic rate high enough to not require pacing. Of course all patients are different 👊🏽 Also, I know practices vary from facility to facility but in the few Surgical CVICUs I’ve worked in, dobutamine isn’t typically used in the open heart surgical population as it typically contributes to cardiac irritability 🤙🏽 Love to see the wheels turning! Grind on!

A vehicular accident patient with spinal injury and with pneumothorax to atelectasis due to lung puncture of something, tracheally deviated compressing either side if heart is compromised but managed to ICU, can a device or some sort of powerful sensor with control implanted function like in holter monitor operated remotely be of a 2nd option connected to heart specialists, and a severed spine grey matter and severed nerve fibers be replaced by the other grey matters in other parts of the brain by the use of adjacent receptor motor inducer supposedly former connections of nerve fibers now severed, new signalling created from the manipulations of sensors from glial cells and and organ nerve receptors augmented by new nannotechnology created organ receptors because nannotechnology can do that now and with modified neuroengineered Schwann cells all signals in that patient body emmanating from the other grey matters in the brain other than the butterfly spinal grey matter? Monitoring hemodynamics sensor based.
