Hello to all of my Healthcare brothers and sister! The 2020 AHA Guidelines are out. I have posted the new videos for BLS, ACLS, and PALS: kzbin.info/aero/PLhOFBB3AV9swkQ1KUodrLKmxvEbI3R0-R. These changes will not take place until February 2021; however, these concepts are currently being taught in your courses. ☺️❤️

@@da-liyaJoseph great question. It’s really depends upon if you study for it . I did an online course and then the other half in person (BLS AHA ) . ACLS is a bit more difficult in my opinion but I feel it’s best to take it back to back, because the content are similar. I hope this helps and wish you luck

@@ssnehassiva5831 Just google “BLS classes near me”, or you can go through the Red Cross site. Once you find the right one, you’ll typically have to pay a fee and then attend. Question at 12:05 Regarding rescue breaths you state after every "round " of chest compressions The provider should provide two breaths every two to three seconds. If you were doing just rescue breathing this would be the case, but after compressions it would only be 2 breaths and 30 compressions. Not 30 compressions and 2 breaths every 2-3 seconds unless it was an advanced airway, correct?
@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung Жыл бұрын
You are correct in identifying a discrepancy. Let me clarify the general guidelines for CPR in adults: Without Advanced Airway: After every 30 chest compressions, the provider should give 2 rescue breaths (taking about 1 second each) and then resume chest compressions. This 30:2 ratio is continued. With an Advanced Airway: Continuous chest compressions are given without pauses, and breaths are delivered once every 6 seconds (or about 10 breaths per minute). For rescue breathing without chest compressions (for example, in a drowning victim who has a pulse but is not breathing), breaths are given once every 5-6 seconds (or about 10-12 breaths per minute) in adults. In children and infants (when only one rescuer is present), the compression to breath ratio is also 30:2. However, when there are two rescuers, the ratio is 15:2. Always be sure to follow the most recent guidelines provided by authoritative sources such as the American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent organizations in your country.

You asses the environment for safety first. Look for anything that might be dangerous, like signs of fire, falling debris, or violent people. If your safety is at risk, remove yourself from the area and call for help. If the scene is safe, assess the condition of the sick or injured person. You are a good trainer. Thank you.

agonal respiration is an indicator of cardiac arrest, so you must begin chest compressions (CPR) immediately. But Nurse cheung said If Pt's pulse present with agonal breath, begin resque breathing? Can you verify this for me?
@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Seohyun Peters ☺️💜 Here is the algorithms for BLS, ACLS, PALS for the American Heart Association cpr.heart.org/en/resuscitation-science/cpr-and-ecc-guidelines/algorithms. These will advise what to do for agonal breathing. If the heart rate is less than 60, then you will begin CPR. However, if the heart rate is greater than 60 with agonal breathing, you want to provide rescue breaths.

@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Karina McLoughlin ☺️ For adults, the new 2020 Guidelines advise that we provide 1 breath every 6 seconds with or without an advanced airway as discussed in the 4:49 part of my video. For pediatrics, we provide 1 breath every 2 to 3 seconds. There was a typo on my slide for pediatric resuscitation; however, the breath count is listed from the 2015 to 2020 guidelines in the table on the slide.

Im confused on the pediatric BLS. Do you give breaths every 2-3 seconds or do you give breaths after every round of CPR?
@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung 3 жыл бұрын
Thats a great question Michael Laviola ☺️ It is really dependent on the situation and resources. If you are a single rescuer or 2 rescuer without a bag valve mask, then you will perform breaths after each round of chest compressions. However, in the hospital setting, we have a bag valve mask and provide rescue breaths every 2-3 seconds for pediatric patients and every 6 seconds for adults. I hope that helps answer your question.

Please how can i get AHA certificate...
@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung Жыл бұрын
Obtaining an American Heart Association (AHA) certificate typically involves the following steps: Choose the Desired Course: The AHA offers a range of courses, from Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare professionals to Heartsaver courses for the general public. You'll need to determine which certification is right for your needs. Find an Authorized Training Center or Instructor: Use the AHA's "Find a Course" tool on their website to locate a training center or course near you. Register for the Course: Once you've identified the right course and location, you'll need to register. Some courses may have online components, while others are entirely in-person. Complete the Course: Depending on the course, this might involve online modules, in-person skill sessions, or a combination of both. Ensure you attend all required sessions and complete all modules. Pass the Exam: After completing the course content, you'll typically have to pass an exam. This might include both a written component and a hands-on skills test. Receive Your Certificate: Once you pass the exam, you will receive your AHA certification card. This can be a physical card, an eCard, or both, depending on the training center. Stay Current: AHA certifications are valid for two years. To maintain your certification, you'll need to take a renewal or recertification course before your current certification expires. It's essential to ensure that any course you take is an official AHA course if you want an AHA certification. Some other organizations offer similar training but are not affiliated with the AHA, so always check credentials.

One quick question: first you note to check responsiveness first, then check for scene safety, then (9:30) you note scene safety first. Is this done differently for adults vs peds, thanks, wish me luck Friday.
@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Zinc Man. You always want to check for scene safety if you are out in the field and someone collapses. There are times victims may collapse in the middle of the street. It is important to remove the victim and yourself out of a dangerous situation. There are stories where victims and rescuers were hurt performing CPR in a dangerous location. If you get hurt, then you are not going to be able to help anyone else or yourself. I hope that helps answer your question ☺️❤️

Great question Kwuan Hill ☺️💜 My BLS video is all inclusive regarding the information you need to know to pass the exam and skills checkoff. However, some organizations may require you to purchase the book to bring to the class. I would recommend following up with the provider will be administering the class to make sure that is not a requirement. Otherwise, you are golden ☺️

@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung Жыл бұрын
Yes and no. The American Heart Association (AHA) offers BLS courses online with an in-person skills test component. You will still need to find a testing facility near you for skills check-offs so it is not 100% online. You can visit their website to find an authorized training center near you and register for the course. Just make sure to choose the "Blended Learning" option to complete the online portion before attending the in-person skills test. Good luck!

@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung 2 жыл бұрын
Great question Rajani Prasad. If you google American Heart Association BLS, you will find the AHA website. The online version of BLS is called Heartcode. Please Note: If you decide to take the Heartcode BLS online, you will still be required to go to an American Heart Association Training Center for skills verification. I hope that helps.

Hello, if a pt choked and is unconscious, we do cpr as per AHA but I’m wondering if we do rescue breathing wouldn’t it drive the fbao further down the airway?
@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung 2 жыл бұрын
Great question Marcial Bonifacio 😊💜 If the patient is unconscious and was choking prior, then you would perform CPR as the patient has most likely lost a pulse, but I would still follow the BLS algorithm to confirm no pulse is present. After a round of CPR, the algorithm would require you to turn the patient on their side and look in the mouth to see if the object is present. Never blind sweep in the person's mouth, as this can push the object back down, blocking the airway. I will also note that if you ask the person if they need help and they gesture that they do not want help, do not touch the person as this can be considered battery if you are sued. Once the person becomes unconscious, consent is implied to save their life. I hope that helps answer your question. 😊

Thank u. I have one doubt. Defibrilation initial dose 2j/kg what it means?
@NurseCheung
@NurseCheung 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Mumthasrassy Rassy ☺️ When you look at a defibrillator, you are going to see a button called energy select or some variation of that. This is how you are going to select your joules to provide during each shock for the patient when necessary. If you have a child who weights 20 kg then you are going to dial up the energy to 40 joules (2 joules x 20 kg = 40 joules). Each subsequent shock (4, 6, 8) will require more energy. Remember you never want to go above 10 joules/kg. ☺️💜

Thank u mam. But adult have 80kg or more first shock giving 160j right.then what about second and third shoke(4,6,8). In biphasic defib upto 200j.plss clarify this.

Can you explain why it is ok to give rescue breaths to an unresponsive choking INFANT even when you do not see the object, but not for a child or an adult??

@biggerroger
@biggerroger 3 жыл бұрын
@@NurseCheung in the provider manual and when I was in class they did not say anything about giving breaths to anyone but a choking infant. But also they did not state why it is ok to give breaths. Don’t you risk pushing the object further in? Especially if you have to tilt the head back? And also are you supposed to give breaths until the chest rises or just try it one time and then go back to compressions and then try breaths again?
