Stroke is the second leading cause of disability in Europe. this lecture reviews the pivotal role of the neuroscience nurse in the management of acute stroke patients. The role of the nurse in the interdisciplinary team and as a care manager in the first 72 hours after acute stroke is discussed. An overview of the care pathway and stroke order set for Landspitali in Iceland is provided with an analysis of the role and responsibilities of the neuroscience nurse.
