In preparing, prior to insertion, I would add that it is important to first verify the order. New nurses and students need to remember these details. Sometimes they are so anxious about the insertion, they forget the small but important steps.

we use the "bridle" method to secure an NG, plus verify by x-ray before any feedings or medications are given.

Should do an X-ray first before aspirating in case the tube is in the lungs. A x-ray is a gold standard

Anyone else completely creeped out by her cheery voice describing the steps. “ while the patient is gagging”, meaning wishing he was somewhere / anywhere else and had never agreed to submitting to this.

You’re suppose to assess the abdomen before insertion. Inspect, auscultate, palpate and assess for pain to know baseline findings.

It won't suction properly. It has to be free of any kinks or coils.Also, if the tubing has to be taken back out it cannot be resused. This was a good video but didn't talk about steriity nor exercise all the equipment that was supposed to be used.

My dad (Doc George Lopez) created the Lopez Valve. I don't have healthcare while my father is a doctor and created ICU Medical. I went into stage 3 sepsis last year because I was scared of medical costs due to not having insurance. Is it me or is it ironic that his own daughter has no ability to access the medical devices his company created?

@@lizardlizrn9185 I don't have any parental support and it's impossible to afford it currently, and I haven't had any luck finding a job with health insurance benefits. I had to stop talking to my mother because she's a narcissist and verbally and physically abused me since I was a child, when I was 18 she left me homeless on the street and I've had to support myself by myself ever since. I'm 23 now, I've never met my father and I tried every other avenue I could to arrange a meeting, even meeting his mother (my grandmother) and they told me to try medi-cal for health insurance. my father considers himself a sperm donor and that I'm not his child to take care of (even tho he chose to have an affair while his wife at the time (now passed away, RIP) had cancer) and I tried to apply for medi-cal but you can only make $12,000 a year or less to qualify and that's almost impossible in California, where I live. I'm too poor to afford it myself but the government thinks I'm too rich to deserve it. By the way, the only reason I felt entitled to ask my father for insurance is that I had stage 3 sepsis and didn't want to get treatment because I was scared of going into debt, but my friends forced me to go to the Hospital. They said I was within an hour of death, according to the doctor who treated me, and I was very lucky to make it. And the medicine that saved my life? It was a bag of liquid antibiotics and 2 bags of IV fluid created by ICU medical. His own child can't even afford the life-saving medicine and medical devices he created, let that sink in.

Just contaminated the tube throughout, never checked for placement half way through insertion with the pen light/tongue dipressor. If you dont check for placement before reaching your mark, the tube could have been embedded in the brain are the roof of the mouth. This would cause the patient to be really uncomfortable if to have to start the procedure over again. Think about it!

It physiologically couldn't insert into either of those locations unless there is trauma or past surgical history allowing a pathway, for which an NG tube is contraindicated. So... No.

Remember DO NOT USE A HUGE TUBE N SOMEONE W/small passages or has MEGA SENSORY ISSUES. I recently had to have hosp remove mine 9hr later cuz I kept choking & repeatedly 🤮🤮🤮🤮 Almost nothing got sucked thu tube cuz I was still 🤮🤮🤮🤮
