Nurtured in Nature: A Nature-Based Wellness Initiative for BIPOC Folks

Nurtured in Nature is a nature-based wellness initiative led by the inter-organizational nonprofit Healthy Champaign County. Led by Tomas Delgado and thanks to a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services' Healing Illinois program, Nuruted in Nature will lead four seasonal hikes throughout 2024 for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) folks of Champaign County, Illinois.
The natural areas of Champaign County are beautiful gems that provide a range of ecological services for flora, fauna, and humans alike. There is a growing need to steward access and restore connections between BIPOC communities and our region's natural areas. We have a shared right and responsibility to care for nature so that nature can care for us. We have an opportunity to heal from the legacies of systemic traumas while healing the lands we call home.
