One Summer’s Day is a bittersweet rendition of Joe Hisaishi’s composition for piano, from the movie Spirited Away. For many of our members, this was the first piece they heard, performed by our current EXCO at the Welcome Tea back in September. This was also the first piece they’ve ever performed as part of the full ensemble, back in Prologue, our concert at the end of Semester 1. We hope this piece served as a fitting conclusion to the night, and a meaningful capstone to our performers’ year in GENUS.
About us 🎸
NUS Guitar Ensemble (GENUS) is a student-run guitar ensemble located in the National University of Singapore, and a member of NUS Centre For the Arts. With a nearly 40-year-long history, the group boasts a wide repertoire ranging from major classical works to Japanese anime themes. In accordance with the Niibori method, GENUS utilises a set of guitars with varying pitches to produce an orchestral effect.
